Intro
Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti (Arabicجلال الدين السيوطيromanizedJalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī) (c. 1445–1505 CE) ,or Al-Suyuti, was an Egyptian Sunni polymath. Considered the Mujtahid and Mujaddid of the Islamic 10th century.

In his famous Tafsir Al-Dur al-Manthur, he comments on 3:55, he quotes Ibn Abbas and confirms that Ibn Abbas beleived that Mumeetuka (death of Eisa [as]) will happen in the future when Eisa (as) physically descends to Earth. Here is a 65 page treatment of the return of Esa (as).

Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti was the foremost leading muhaddith (hadith master), mufassir (Qu’ran exegete), faqīh (jurist), usuli (legal theorist), sufi (mystic), theologiangrammarianlinguistrhetoricianphilologist,  lexicographer and historian, who authored works in virtually every Islamic science. For this reason, he was honoured one of the most prestigious and rarest titles; Shaykh al-Islām.

“””As-Suyuti also explains this verse as using the literary device of Taqdeem wal-Ta’khir. The big difference here is that he cites Ad-Dahhaak as saying that (his teacher) Ibn Abbas (ra) said that verse innee mutwafeeka wa raafi’uka as meaning: ‘I will lift you away and then I will take your life at the end of time””.

“I swear to God that Jesus (AS) is at this moment alive in God’s presence, and that everyone will believe in him when he returns.” With regard to the Holy Qur’an 4:159, he said: “God raised Jesus (AS) to His presence. He will send him before the Day of Judgment as a holder of rank. Good and bad, all will believe in him.” (Al-Suyuti, Durr al-Manthur, 2:284) He also made a similar comment regarding the Holy Qur’an 43:61, saying that the meaning of the verse was that Jesus (AS) would return to earth.””
