Intro
First Annual Convention (Jalsa) of Aḥmadiyya Community of the United States of America was held in Dayton, Ohio on 5 September 1948 (See also “50th Jalsa Salana Souvenir”) and conducted by Dr. Khalil Ahmad Nasir (missionary-in-charge, USA). Allegedly, Ahmadi’s came from Chicago, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Youngstown, Du Quoin, Homestead, New York and Kansas. Ninety participated in the convention. (Al-Fazl, 24-25 September 1948, p. 6). This was also reported in the Moslem Sunrise of 1948-4th Quarter.
It is unclear whether the other 2 Qadiani-Ahmadi Maulvi’s attended. Maulvi Ghulam Yasin (also spelled Yaseen) should have also attended, and Maulvi Mirza Monawar Ahmad died on 9-15-1948(see the Moslem Sunrise of 1948), which was barely 10 days after the Jalsa concluded. Maulvi Shukar ilahi Hussain is also missing.

1948 National Jalsa Salana held in Dayton, Ohio. This photo was taken on the site of what was to become the 1st mosque built in America by American converts. In this photo is Amtul Lateef Elahee. She was the 1st American Ahmadi lady to go to Rabwah. She was sent there as a representative of the American Lajna Imaillah to attend the 50th Anniversary of Lajna Imaillah International.
