Intro
In August of 1899 (Malfuzat, V-1, page 297-298, new online Urdu edition), the Al-Hakam newspaper reported that MGA was asked a question at Qadian by someone (or in MGA’s presence), should we consider MGA to be greater than Abu Bakr (ra) and Umar (ra). MGA got mad and said that he praises them and is the dust at their feet, and no one can reach their status until the end of time (See the Al-Hakam of 9-Sep-1899, Number 3, pages 4-5).

However, it should be noted that 5-6 years earlier in 1893, MGA was asserting that Ibn Sirin asserted that the Mahdi was better than Abu Bakr (ra)(naozobillah).

Ibn sirin was asked about the mahdi and if he’s better than abu bakr (ra) in virtues, and acc to MGA ibn sirin responded by saying that he (the mahdi) was better than some anbiya.
