I, along with many other concerned citizens, am alarmed at the potential conflicts of interest swirling around the campaign donations made by AMJ leaders to three of our council members: Mayor Leduc, Deputy Mayor Sandhu, and Councilor Scott. Investigating further into the matter, donations totaling $5250 have been made by these AMJ leaders whilst at the same time votes continued on a previously denied project AMJ was associated with. The amounts donated constitute to $3000 for Mayor Leduc, $1650 for Deputy Mayor Sandhu and $600 for Councilor Scott.

In spite of these donations being within the legal framework, it remains deeply troubling as it could potentially exploit a loophole and raises substantial ethical concerns. The pivotal issue at hand is that these council members who have accepted the donations must recuse themselves in order to uphold the trust of the public. It is fundamental for the credibility of our democratic institution that our elected officials remain impartial and free from conflicts of interest, especially when making decisions that impact our community.

This situation was brought to light at the January 14th AMJ meeting and it becomes imperative that we address this with utmost urgency. Tell our elected officials that we insist on transparency, integrity and most importantly, that we uphold these very principles that constitute our democratic process. Let’s reclaim our faith in the system. Please join me in urging Mayor Leduc, Deputy Mayor Sandhu and Councilor Scott to step down from their positions to restore public trust.
