Intro
In 1942, via FBI reports (63/125), and via a memo by the Michigan State Police, W.D. Fard’s alias was Davis-El (living at 9136 Oakland Ave) and he was previously a “grand sheikh” of the Moorish Science Temple and was allegedly from Kansas City or Chicago. However, the name of the FBI agents are unknown, as well as the informants. Even the report itself confirms that this information was not verified (Fanusie said the same).
In the 1945 edition of Arna Bontemps and Jack Conroy titled “They Seek A City” (see pages 177-183). Beynon was indirectly quoted and his testimony was thus given, this is how Wallace Farad was connected to Noble Drew Ali. There is no other testimony. However, in the 1966 edition of the same book, on page 217, it is alleged that Wallace Farad “must have been a follower of Noble Drew Ali. David Ford-El is not mentioned in either edition. In 1962, after the FBI made public allegations vs. Wallace Farad, E. U. Essien-Udom wrote about that Wallace Farad and also connected him to Noble Drew Ali in his 1962 book “Black Nationalism: The Search for an Identity”. E. U. Essien-Udom)(See also John Morrow, “Finding W.D. Fard”, page 188). Nevertheless, David Ford-El was not mentioned at all. Thus proving that it was false report which was given to the FBI.
In 1999, Karl Evanzz published his famous “The Messenger: The Rise and Fall of Elijah Muhammad”. In this book, Karl Evanzz quoted the FBI file on Wallace d. Farad (and “Anyplace but Here”, page 222-23). However, Dr. John Morrow wrote on page 190 of his book that it is not a reasonable assertion and quoted Bowen as saying it is a completely unsupported tradition.
In the late 1990’s, Karl Evanzz’s got unprecedented access to FBI records dealing with Fard Muhammad, Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam. This provided an important advance in our understanding of the development of the organization. In “The Messenger”, Evanzz makes a strong case for an identity of Fard Muhammad based solely on FBI records, which prevents him from investigating an Islamic identity for Fard, despite his own conclusions regarding Fard’s background and suspected Muslim parentage. Instead, Evanzz relies wholly upon the FBI files to argue conclusively that Fard Muhammad was exactly who the FBI hinted he was: a criminal, con-artist from New Zealand of Indian and European parentage looking to make a lucrative profit from impoverished African Americans during the depression era (via Fanusie, page 23).
After Noble Drew Ali died, 7-20-25. David Ford El claimed that Drew Ali had left him in-charge and declared himself the “reincarnation of Noble Drew Ali” on July 29 (See “The Messenger”, Evanzz, author’s interviews; CIA report on the NOI; also see Bontemps, “Anyplace but Here”, page 222-23). Ahlstrom (p. 1067), Abu Shouk (p. 147), Hamm (p. 14), and Lippy (p. 214) all state that Fard claimed to be, or was considered by many Moors to be, the reincarnation of Drew Ali.
Bowen pointed out how many high-ranking members of the MSTA cult were mentioned in newspapers of 1929, however, David Ford-El was never mentioned. A man named Charles Kirkman was mentioned and how he was kidnapped and how he claimed to be the “Grand Vizier Bey”. The Chicago Tribune of Thu, Sep 26, 1929 ·Page 46 tells us that Jackson Bey and A. Williamson El were in a gun battle over control of the MSTA. A man named Ria Johnson-El had killed a police officer (William Gallagher) in Sep-1929 and confessed to it in the same gun battle. All 3 were under arrest.
In March-1929, (See New Pittsburgh Courier of Sat, Mar 23, 1929 ·Page 10), the murder of Claude Green is mentioned as well as the fact that he was the former supreme business manager of the Moorish Science Temple and was currently working as the President of the “Chicago Boosters’ Civic Club”. The newspaper reports that Claude Green had exposed Drew Ali of extra marital affairs with 3 women. Noble Drew Ali died just 4 months later on July 20-1929.
In Oct-1929, (Via New Pittsburgh Courier of Sat, Oct 05, 1929 ·Page 20), Charles Kirkman is mentioned. As well as J. Stevenson (who died while hiding in a closet), Moe Jackson was wounded. Policeman William Gallagher is dead. Charles Kirkman lives at 442 West Elm St, Chicago.
