Chairman PTI Imran Khan who has a history of being soft on the Taliban has yet again made a controversial statement. The statement was issued in response to a viral video which showed Nadia Ramzan of PTI UK along with members of the Pakistani press meeting the head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in London. In the meeting Ramzan asked his Holiness who would he vote for personally and what would he advise (to his followers).

During the meeting, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad said when Imran Khan launched his political party, he was head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Pakistan and Khan sent one of his emissaries to Mirza in order to gain the Ahmadiyya community’s support through him. He said that no one had the courage to withdraw the law declaring Ahmadis non-Muslims for fear of ‘Maulvis’.

Soon after the video went viral PTI’s Information Secretary Shireen Mazari said the individual in the video does not represent the PTI “politically”.

“Imran Khan has categorically denied having passed on any such instructions to anyone on the party’s behalf,” she said. “Nadia Ramzan is the daughter of Imran Khan’s friend. Our secretariats both in the US and UK have elected office-bearers and a young man, Shahbaz heads the PTI Secretariat in the UK,” she said.

However, she said that Imran Khan has a personal secretariat in London which collects funds for charity projects such as cancer hospitals and universities and “Nadia is a part of that secretariat which includes Khan’s close friends”.

And just days later on 1st March Khan issued another statement describing the video as “fake and based on total lies”. He also went on to say “Neither i nor PTI have ever asked to especially ask for Qadiani votes for Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf”

Khan said he had an absolute belief in the finality of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Anyone claiming prophethood after him is a liar. This belief of mine is the same as that of the entire Muslim Ummah. PTI totally subscribes to the article in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Qadianis. It is not part of the PTI agenda to seek amendment of the said article in the Constitution.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief also went on to release a video message in which he said that he would neither revise nor repeal any current laws pertaining to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, since these were in consonance with his personal beliefs.

In July 2025, Imran Khan’s sons, Suleiman Isa Khan and Qasim Khan, visited the US to advocate for their father’s release. During the visit, they were accompanied by Dr. Asif Mahmood, an Ahmadi politician in the USA who had previously helped organize a visit for Mirza Masroor Ahmad to Capitol Hill in 2012. This does not indicate any current connection between Ahmad and Khan, but it does show an incidental link via a third party.

The sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Kasim and Sulaiman Khan, have embarked on a campaign across the United States to garner support for their father’s release from prison. They are meeting with prominent members of Congress, accompanied by Dr. Asif Mahmood, a U.S.-based physician and human rights advocate.

Khan, who was ousted from office in 2022, is currently serving a 14-year sentence on charges widely criticized as politically motivated. His sons are urging U.S. lawmakers to intervene in what they describe as an erosion of democracy and judicial independence in Pakistan. Their efforts have included meetings with Reps. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), and other key figures on Capitol Hill.

“We are here to ask for your support in ensuring the release of our father and the countless others who have been unjustly imprisoned in Pakistan for their political beliefs,” Kasim Khan said during a meeting, according to social media posts.

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met with the Khan brothers and expressed concerns about the political situation in Pakistan. “I am concerned to hear that Khan remains isolated from his family, friends, attorneys, and doctors. His sons also shared that his physical health may be deteriorating.,” Sherman said in a tweet after his meeting with the Khan family.

Rep. Joe Wilson, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, also met with the family. He later tweeted, “Grateful to meet Sulaiman Isa Khan and Kasim Khan to discuss their father. Free Imran Khan.”

The brothers are accompanied by Dr. Asif Mahmood, a U.S.-based physician and human rights advocate, who has played a key role in organizing the meetings. Mahmood, a commissioner with the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), has a history of advocacy, including helping to organize a landmark 2012 visit to Capitol Hill by Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the spiritual leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

The Khan brothers’ visit also included engagements with members of the Pakistani diaspora in the U.S., where they emphasized the importance of international pressure on Pakistan’s government. Sajjad Burki, the president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) USA, has been coordinating many of these efforts and shared updates of the meetings on social media.

Khan, a former cricket star turned politician, remains one of Pakistan’s most popular leaders. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has faced widespread arrests and harassment since his removal from office.
