Intro
In this video, host Malika Bilal (Senior Presenter, Al Jazeera English) tells the story of these early Black American Muslim communities through a woman named Florence Watts (born as Florence Sullivan), who moved to the bustling South Side of Chicago around 1910, where she found work as a cook and a maid and eventually unknowingly converted to Ahmadiyya (Qadianism, not Islam). However, this documentary totally misses the fact that the American government didn’t want “Sunni” Islam to thrive in America and thus allowed deviant groups to immigrate to the USA and confuse black people. In fact, the Qadiani-Ahmadi missionary Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was forced to flee America in 1923 after he married a woman who was already married, and after he had promised the immigration authorities that he wouldn’t practice polygamy in the USA. After Mufti Muhammad Sadiq fled, the African-American’s that sold lies to were disenfranchised and began creating their own sects of Kufr (not Islam)(see the case of Wali Akram, Sheikh Ahmad Din and Noble Drew Ali). They began believing that blacks were God or God like, which is totally against Islam. This did not help black folks in America, it buried them! Black folks in America should have been taught that Islam doesn’t see color, all humans are equal! Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was also named by a companion of MGA (Charles Sievwright) in the Los Angeles area as someone who was part of an international ring wherein young women were abducted and etc. Moreover, even Holmes (1926) and Hoffert (1927) wrote how Ahmadiyya was dead in America and amongst black folks. Mary Caroline Holmes alleges that only negroes have converted to Ahmadiyya, 900 of them and that the newspaper “The Moslem Sunrise” has ceased to exist. She says that Mohammad Yusuf Khan is working as the “Missionary-in-Charge”. She claims that a few negroes are converting to Islam as a result of their persecution by whites in America. She also curiously mentioned how the adhan is not recited by a man, the Qadiani-Ahmadi’s in 1926 were using a phonograph for the adhan (were the black folks not trained on how to give the Adhan?). Even in the 1930’s Ahmadiyya was dead and in the 1950’s (see Hatim). Thus, it is proven that Ahmadiyya only led African-American’s away from Islam from 1920–2025. Since in 2025, less than 1% of Ahmadi’s in America are African-American. This documentary also totally missed the Qadiani-Ahmadi sales pitch to the American Negro.

Nevertheless, this documentary covers the life of Mrs. Florence Watts. She was mentioned in the July-1922 edition of the Moslem Sunrise as Zeinab (page 115, 8th from the bottom, left side). Her photo appeared in the Moslem Sunrise of Jan-1923 (see page 165). It should be noted that after 1923, all of these women had totally severed their contacts with the Ahmadiyya Movement. This documentary didn’t cover this important fact, nor did it cover how America didn’t want Muslim’s in America and even shut down the first ever mosque (the Highland Park Mosque, 1921-1924).

The host Malika Bilal (Senior Presenter, Al Jazeera English) began calling Elijah Muhammad’s Nation of Islam as Muslims in the 1950’s (this is inaccurate, it’s pure Kufr). Malika mentions the rise of Black Muslims (NOI) in the mid-1950’s, however, she doesn’t mention the Lahori-Ahmadi’s and their role in developing the deeper beliefs of the NOI. Nor does she mention the Qadiani-Ahmadi’s and how their Quran’s developed the beliefs of the NOI (like blue eyed devil and jinn being white men from North Europe).

Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik begins to describe the converts listed in the Moslem Sunrise, however, she doesn’t know that in most cases, these people had no idea that by signing a membership form, they were now Ahmadi’s and Ahmadiyya was NOT Islam. Fatimah Fanusie explains how Watts moved to Chicago whilst seeking employment in the 1910’s.

Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik says that MGA claimed to be prophet, arguably! She added this additional word “arguably” and proved that she knows about the Lahori-Ahmadi’s. Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik does call Ahmadiyya as “un-orthodox” and claims that it is only because of their structure (which is blatantly incorrect, Ahmadiyya is pure Kufr).

Edward E. Curtis (Professor at Indiana University) says that the Ahmadiyya proselytizing mission put money into their efforts, however, Curtis doesn’t know about the backing from the British, the new Ahmadiyya temple in London, Berlin (the the mid-1920’s), and where did this money come from? It’s a total mystery. Not just the money, but the governmental backing is unprecedented. In fact, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq’s entry into the USA was based on a letter by the British Empire wherein they spoke highly of him.

Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik talks about Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, however, she doesn’t mention his foray with the Syrian Muslims in Detroit and how that turned into a disaster, simply because of the Kufri belief’s of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq (see the case of the Highland Park Mosque and why it was shut down).

Edward E. Curtis (Professor at Indiana University) mentions Sheikh Ahmad Din, however, he doesn’t mention that he was later named Fahamme Rasool and he robbed many black families. He mentions how Mufti Muhammad Sadiq bought a house on Wabash (in Chicago) and started calling it a masjid (Ahmadiyya temple), however, he doesn’t explain as to where the money came from.

Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik talks about Florence Watts (born as Florence Sullivan) and how she worked close to the Ahmadiyya temple on Wabash in 1922. However, where was her husband? Was she looking for a new husband? How does Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik know that Florence Watts picked a new name (Zeinab)? Where is the evidence for this? Was the name assigned?
Other women in the documentary acknowledge that Florence joined Ahmadiyya without knowing what it was.

Sister Sylvia Chan-Malik alleges that Florence and other African-American’s were learning the Quran, however, there is no evidence for this at all, in fact, the opposite is true.

Edward E. Curtis (Professor at Indiana University) alleges that in the 1950’s, the NOI became the largest Muslim organization in America.
