Intro
We have found a story in Seeratul Mahdi which explains MGA’s position on fasting during Ramadhan and travelling in modern means (see Quranic verse 2:185). In this story, some friends had come from Lahore, most likely from train, Lahore to Batala and then via a cart driven by a Bull or horse or Oxe. MGA emphatically stated that this type of travel made it impermissible to fast during Ramadhan.

Furthermore, the majority of scholars of Islam view that fasting whilst traveling is permissible. If the traveler fasts, it counts and he does not have to make it up. For more, please see the detailed answer. The four Imams and the majority of the Sahabah and Tabi’in were of the view that fasting whilst traveling is permissible and is correct and valid. If the traveler fasts, it counts and he does not have to make it up. (Al-Mawsu’ah al-Fiqhiyyah, vol. 28, p. 73)

Serat ul mehdi 381

“Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail Sahib told me that once some friends from Lahore came to Qadian during Ramadan. When Hazrat Sahib was informed, he came to the mosque to meet them with breakfast. These friends He said, “We are all fasting.” He said, “Fasting while traveling is not right. We should follow the permission of Allah, the Exalted, so we made them breakfast and broke their fast.”
