Intro
In the Quran, the people of Yunus (as) were given a reprieve from punishment from Allah, they are an exception to the rule of repentance. [see Quran, chapter 37 (As-Saaffat), verses 139–148].

Tafsīr al-Rāzī quotes Ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنه) as saying about Yūnus (عليه السلام): فَأَوْحَى اللَّه تعالى إِلَيهِ: قُلْ لَهم إِنْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا جَاءكُمُ الْعَذَابُ So Allāh (ﷻ) revealed to him: “Say to them, ‘If you do not believe, the punishment will come to you.’”
