Intro
In the Quran, the people of Yunus (as) were given a reprieve from punishment from Allah, they are an exception to the rule of repentance. [see Quran, chapter 37 (As-Saaffat), verses 139–148].See Suyuti and Ibn Kathir (see also 10:98 of the Quran, 10:99 in the Kadiani Koran). Further, the biggest keyword here is “IF”…Qadiani-Ahmadi use this as they waffle on the prophecies of MGA and how they all failed.

In 1900, MGA argued that the promise of Divine punishment given to Prophet Jonah was clear and its term was fixed at forty days. This being averted provides clear guidance for the righteous regarding prophecies warning of Divine punishment as is set forth in detail in [the book] Durr-e-Manthur and in the Book of Jonah (See Arba’in, online English edition, page 50).

In 1902, MGA and his team argued that this is an accepted principle of the entire world, and a unanimously agreed-upon belief of the people of Islam, Christians, and Jews, that a warning (wa’id), that is, a prophecy of punishment, can be averted even without the condition of repentance, seeking forgiveness, and fear — just as the forty-day prophecy of the Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him), which had no condition attached, was averted, and not a single child among the inhabitants of Nineveh, who numbered more than one hundred thousand, died; and the Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him), from that thought and shame that his prophecy had turned out false, fled from his land. Now consider: is this honesty? Jonah said that now, having been branded a liar, I shall never again go back to that people. If the hadith is to be trusted, then look at the hadiths in the Durr-e-Manthur under the commentary on this occasion; and if the Christians’ Bible is to be trusted, then look at the Book of the Prophet Jonah. After all, one ought to feel shame at some point. Shamelessness and faith cannot be combined. What answer will you give before God Almighty for this injustice and wrong — that you people saw a clear prophecy fulfilled cleanly and derived no benefit from it, while over one or two prophecies which you people, out of your own ignorance, could not understand — which were conditional upon conditions — you raised an uproar? (See “Tuhfa-e-Ghaznaviyyah”, pages 535 to 536).

Tafsīr al-Rāzī quotes Ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنه) as saying about Yūnus (عليه السلام): فَأَوْحَى اللَّه تعالى إِلَيهِ: قُلْ لَهم إِنْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا جَاءكُمُ الْعَذَابُ So Allāh (ﷻ) revealed to him: “Say to them, ‘If you do not believe, the punishment will come to you.’”
