Intro
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s poems from “Durr-e Sameen” are read most of the time before any Ahmadiyya meeting/Jalsa begins, even General Meetings and other events, all they need is a Pakistani immigrant to sing it. Interestingly, 99% of the American born people have no idea what is being uttered. Furthermore, it’s in Urdu, a language that rarely any American born person can understand. In fact, most Ahmadi’s in the USA can’t even understand the Friday sermons by the Khalifa, since they are in Urdu, thus, they must watch an English translation.

Durr-e Sameen, literally meaning Precious Pearl, it is a compilation of all the Urdu poems and
verses of MGA. The actual poetry was composed over a period of approximately twenty-eight years, from 1880 to 1908, and was included in the more than eighty books of prose that he wrote on various religious subjects. Ahmadiyya sources allege that the first edition of Durr-e Sameen was published in India in 1896 by Khalifa Nooruddin Jamooni and included all the Urdu poems of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad written up to that time. In the same year, a second edition was published, this time by Hakeem Fazluddin Bhervi. Some five years later, in October 1901, Khalifa Nooruddin Jamooni published the third edition under the title Durar-e Sameen Kaamil (meaning Perfect Precious Pearls). Since the publication of these very early editions, the Urdu Durr-e Sameen has gone through numerous printings over the past hundred years. In the below, we have posted the 1910, 1932 and 1937 Urdu editions of “Durr-e Sameen”.

It was translated into English by Waheed Ahmad Toronto, Canada, December 19, 2008. An interesting note, only 2 verses of MGA’s sexual poetry vs. the Arya Samaj (Via MGA’s book “Arya Dharam”) are quoted (see page 115).
