1.Address the Chair-person at all times

  • “…our gathering is not some parliament or legislative assembly, it is a pure Islamic gathering…friends start addressing one another or taking one another by name by way of accusation or rebuttal…despite the fact that this gatherings etiquettes dictate that at this time there is only one individual in front of them which is the Khalifa (Chair)”

2.Abstain from conversations amongst one another

  • “From the time a representative is seated in this gathering he should remain oblivious to the one sitting at his right and his left”

3.Present your view, do not refute anyone else’s

  • “The purpose of seeking advice becomes completely lost if friends do not take this into account and have this notion in mind that it is their job to refute the opinions of others. To refute or not refute these opinions is the job of the Khalifa, their job is only to present their opinion and then remain quiet”

4.Respect all participants

  • “Therefore it is not a matter for one to be proud over, to boast his own intelligence and to mock the foolishness of others. Nor is it permissible for us to be quick tempered over trivial matters in which there is no reason to be quick tempered and to start using language such as “I don’t understand how so-and-so friend could have said something so foolish”
