Intro
In 2026 (Oct-26), Rabwah Times is reporting that authorities in Malaysia continue to take steps to prevent and monitor the spread of Ahmadiyya or Qadiani teachings, although the complexity of their activities poses challenges.
The Selangor government, in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS), is continuously monitoring their activities, especially in areas such as Kampung Nakhoda and Kampung Lakshmana in Gombak. This work involves local authorities, religious institutions and law enforcement agencies.
Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari said mosques and sororities play an important role and immediately report any suspicious activity to JAIS. Public awareness programmes are also being conducted to clarify the differences between Ahmadiyya teachings and the beliefs of Ahle Sunnah wal Jamaat.
On October 17, media reports mentioned police raids on two locations in Gombak, one of which was allegedly being used as a place of prayer without permission. The locations, which were said to be gathering places for foreigners, particularly Pakistanis, were being used for activities linked to the Ahmadiyya faith. Six foreigners were arrested for failing to obtain legal documents under immigration laws.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban explained that the October 17 operation was limited to two unauthorised locations that were being used for religious activities, but did not include the Kampong Nakhod mosque, as stated in initial reports. “These locations were being used as religious centres by foreigners, without permission from the authorities. We also inspected a nearby mosque to check for any possible violations,” he said. Zakaria added that further investigations were underway into the documents and length of stay of the six foreigners arrested.
Amiruddin confirmed that the state surveillance process has been going on for decades, but the laws implemented face legal hurdles because Ahmadiyya followers in Selangor have been declared non-Muslims. “Once declared outside Islam, Sharia law cannot apply to them, unless their activities are against Islamic law or public order,” he said.
JAIS, in collaboration with local residents and mosques, continues to monitor the situation and raise concerns with authorities. Local residents have expressed concerns about traffic congestion due to large gatherings and the legality of foreign visitors.
Nationwide, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAWI) is also involved in the process. Officials say Ahmadiyya followers often migrate or hide their activities through internet platforms, which creates difficulties in operations.
JAWI has identified a few key groups operating across the country, including Ahmadiyya, Mullah Ibrahim, and others. Authorities have requested members of the community to report any suspicious activity via a hotline or email.
Joint operations by the Immigration Department, local councils, police and religious authorities are underway to prevent the spread of Ahmadiyya teachings, with the aim of monitoring unauthorized centers and seizing related materials. The authorities have emphasized the implementation of the legal framework, as well as the protection of public order and national security.
