Intro
In 1893, via his book Shahadatul Quran, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad willfully misattributed a hadith to the Prophet (peace be upon him) via al-Bukhari (See pages 65-66). MGA and his team of writers boldly claimed that there was a hadith from Muhammad (saw) and authenticated into Sahih Bukhari which claimed that in the latter days a Khalifa will emerge and he will be accompanied with a voice from heaven which would say to the effect that this is the هٰذا خَلِیْفَۃُ اللِّٰ الْمَھْدِيّ [This is God’s Khalifah, the Guided One]. However, this is a total lie, there is no such sahih hadith in any collection.
A few years ago, Razi, who is an employee of the Ahmadiyya Movement wrote a response on his website to the effect that “”Either Ahmad forgot or there was an error in the transmission process from Ahmad to the pen man”“. Razi claims that MGA’s scribe made an error which lasted over 100 years, how ridiculous is that? He then claims to have found a similar hadith in “Al’ Arf al Wardi Fi Akhbar al Mahdi”, Hadith #166, which was written by the famous scholar Suyuti (we have posted the arabic scan in the below). However, Razi didn’t give the full ref, nor did he comment on the on 150+ hadith in this collection which confirm that the Mahdi and Eisa (As) are 2 different people altogether. Further, hadith #166 doesn’t come from the tongue of Muhammad (saw), and it tells about the Mahdi fighting a war, which Ahmadi’s totally disagree with.
Razi also claims that this so called hadith was mentioned by Maulana Qasim Nanotwi who was the founder of the Deoband school of thought, however, Razi doesn’t give the reference.

“””To allege that, according to a hadith, Khilafat will last only thirty years is inexplicable. The Holy Quran says:
A large party from among the early Muslims, and a large party from the later ones (Surah al-Waqi‘ah, 56:40–41).
those ahadith that are much more authentic and trustworthy than this hadith should be accepted first; e.g. those ahadith of Sahih al-Bukhari foretelling the appearance of Khulafa’ in the Latter
Days, especially that khalifah about whom it is recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari that, for him, a voice will descend from heaven: هٰذا خَلِیْفَۃُ اللِّٰ الْمَھْدِيّ [This is God’s Khalifah, the Guided One]. Now consider the status and credibility of this hadith—which is recorded in the most authentic of books after the Book of Allah. On the other hand, the hadith that has been presented by the critic has been criticized by the ulema on many grounds and its authenticity has been questioned. Has this critic not pondered over the prophecies regarding the appearance of certain Khulafa’ in the Latter Days that ‘a harith1 will come; the Mahdi will appear; a heavenly khalifah will come. Are they recorded in the books of ahadith or in some other book?”””

Either Ahmad forgot or there was an error in the transmission process from Ahmad to the pen man. However, this hadith does indeed exist and is available in the non Ahmadi books as well. It is also possible that this hadith was available in a version of Bukhari as well. It has also been quoted to be in Bukhari from the non Ahmadi Muslim scholars including the grandson of Maulana Qasim Nanotwi who was the founder of the Deoband school of thought who also stated that this hadith exists in Sahih Bukhari which shows us that such a edition must have existed:
It is also stated:
And on that day, a voice will be heard from the sky calling out: “Verily, the allies of Allah are the companions of so-and-so” – meaning the Mahdi. (Al’ Arf al Wardi Fi Akhbar al Mahdi, Hadith #166)
The hadith is in the book of Imam Suyuti and is narrated by many scholars who are desperately waiting for the Mahdi, although they know his time has passed and he should have already came. In reality he came, but they did not recognize him. The non Ahmadi Muslims try to claim Ahmadas had lied about this hadith God forbid but this only occurs because they haven’t read the books of Ahadith. Calling someone a liar because of forgetulness would mean that the non Ahmadis believe prophets are liars as well.
And on that day, a voice will be heard from the sky calling out: “Verily, the allies of Allah are the companions of so-and-so” – meaning the Mahdi. (Al’ Arf al Wardi Fi Akhbar al Mahdi, Hadith #166)
The hadith does indeed exist in the book of Imam Suyuti (ra) and is quoted by many scholars who are desperately waiting the mahdi, although they know he was to come 100 years ago, and we by the grace of Allah are certain that he already has come.
Here are examples of Sunni scholars also forgetting which shows that it makes no sense for the anti Ahmadis to accuse Ahmad(as) or they would first have to accuse the Prophet(saw) and other prophets for forgetting.

Al- Arf al-Wardi fi Akhbar al-Mahdi By Imam Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti

Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem, Assalamu Alaikum
This is the English translation (done by other than myself) of al-‘Arf al-Wardi fi Akhbar al-Mahdi [The Rose Scented Perfume: On the Reports of the Mahdi] by al-Hafidh Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti [rahimahullah].
In it, the Hafidh has presented over two hundred ahadith and athar regarding the Mahdi. In general, he has arranged them in order of their authenticity. He concludes the book with a section in which he deals with a number of disputed narrations.
Translation of al-‘Arf al-Wardi fi Akhbar al-Mahdi by al-Hafidh Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti [rahimahullah]
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
Al-Hafidh Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti said:
Praise be to Allah, and may peace be upon His slaves whom He has chosen.
This is a booklet in which I have compiled the ahadith and athar that have been narrated regarding the Mahdi. I have included the “Forty” that were compiled by al-Hafidh Abu Nu’aym, and I have added that which he omitted.
[166] And he also narrated from az-Zuhri that he said:
“When the Sufyani and the Mahdi meet in battle on that day, a voice will be heard from the sky: “Verily, the allies of Allah are the companions of so-and-so” – meaning the Mahdi.”
Az-Zuhri said: “And Asma’ bint ‘Umays [radhiyallahu ‘anha] said:
“The sign of that day is an outspread hand in the sky, which the people will be looking at.”
