Intro
Barzakh (Arabic: برزخ) is an Arabic word meaning “obstacle”, “hindrance”, “separation”,] or “barrier”. In Islam, it denotes a place separating the living from the hereafter or a phase/”stage” between an individual’s death and their resurrection in “the Hereafter”. It is also considered as a place where souls rest until the day of judgement. It bears resemblance to the intermediate state in Christianity.
In 1896, via “Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam” (See page 141-149), MGA and his team of writers described the Barzakh as an “intermediate stage” right after death.
In the 1990’s, Mirza Tahir Ahmad answered a question about the Barzak. Mirza Tahir Ahmad quoted a hadith from Muhammad (saw), the people that are going to Hell know where they are going. And people who were going to heaven would have windows opened for them.
In 2024, in this podcast, Maulvi Mahmood Kausar the Ahmadiyya concept of Heaven and Hell was discussed and the Barzakh (and hell is like a hospital). At 20:30, Maulvi Mahmood Kausar says that in the afterlife, per Ahmadiyya scholars, your soul is your new body and that has soul has within it, another soul that will be born.
In Dec-2025, Ahmadiyya employees, Humayon Jahangeerkhan, with Mansoor Clarke and Rabeeb Mirza (works at MTA, translation center) discussed the Ahmadiyya concept of Hell and the state of Barzakh.
