Intro
In 2026 (Aug), Maulvi Iftekhar Ahmad alleged that on 15 March 1903, MGA said that if a mawlid gathering is free of bidʿah, “it is simply a sermon”. Recounting the Prophet’s (sa) mission, birth and death is a source of reward. He called declaring mawlid ḥarām itself a manifest act of sheer excess. To call remembrance of the Prophet (sa) ḥarām was, in his words, “great audacity”. Such remembrance, he said, was permissible and a cause of divine mercy. He condemned the innovations that had entered mawlid gatherings and given them a distinctly mushrikī character. The following year, in a written ruling, he said that a mawlid devoted to the Prophet’s (sa) life, love and ṣalawāt, free of shirk and bidʿah, was permissible and a source of immense reward, adding that such a gathering was a matter of genuine religious importance.
