Intro
Per Ahmadiyya sources, MGA and his team began writing this book in 1900, as his beef with Pir Mehr Ali Shah ended. Per Muhammad Ali in 1915, this book was published on September 1, 1902. This book was in Urdu with some brief Arabic, it ran for 254 pages and was published from the Diya’ul-Islam Press, Qadian, the original edition had barely 40 words per page, this was how they extended the number of pages in those days. In english the title translates as ‘Gift for Golarvi”. Also spelled as Golarviah and Tohfa Golarviak. In this book, MGA asserts that the Messiah was supposed to come exactly 1400 years after Muhammad (saw), he even quotes Nawab Siddiq Hassan Khan’s famous book and his assertions that the Mahdi was coming soon. There is also an appendix, we aren’t sure when this appendix was added. Tohfa-e-Golarwiyah comprises of RK, v. 17, pages 35-340, which includes the Appendix/Supplement on pages 35-86, pages 87-340 are the main book. This book starts with an appendix, which is weird. In the main body of the book Mirza Ghulam Ahmad argues, based on the Quran and Hadeeth, that Jesus has died and that the Promised Messiah was to appear from among the Muslims. In the appendix he argues that he is the Promised Messiah. MGA also gives his GOD a new name in this book, the famous Yalesh. Tofha Golarviyya is in RK-17, as the second book.

You can listen to this book on soundcloud with this link.

Feel free to watch Shams-uddin’s video on this topic herein. Yuz Asaf and the injeel is also quoted in this book. In October of 2021, Saleem Mir said that when MGA quoted Swane Yuz Asaf (see at the 1:44:44 mark), he was really referring to “Barlaam and Josaphat”.

“Remember that God has informed me that it is forbidden to you and forbidden altogether that you should pray behind any Mukaffir (who attributes Kufr to another), Mukazzib (a denier) or Mutaraddid (a doubter). Your Imam should be one who is one of yourselves.”

The Promised Messiahas further added by taking shelter in the shape of a debate Pir Sahib had sought a flight from writing a commentary of surah al-Fatihah and deceived the people in making them believe that he had accepted the challenge. The Promised Messiahas recalled the fact after holding a debate with ‘Abdullah Atham, he had made it very clear that he would never hold a debate with anyone on any subject.””””

“”””Translation: [Arabic] Glad tidings for you, My Ahmad. You are My purpose and are with Me.
I have planted for you My tree with My own hand. Your secret is My secret and you have a
good standing in My presence. I have chosen you for Myself.

You are to Me like My Unity and My Uniqueness, so the time has arrived when you
should be helped and be known among the people. O Ahmad, grace—that is verities and
points of wisdom—flow from your lips. You have been blessed, O Ahmad, and the blessing
that Allah has bestowed upon you was deserved by you.

The Gracious One has taught you the Qur’an—that is, informed you the meanings of the Qur’an that people had forgotten—so that you might warn a people whose ancestors passed away unheeded and so that the guilty ones might be faced with a conclusive argument from God. Tell them: I am not saying this on my own, but on the basis of revelation from God and I am the foremost of the believers in this age. Tell them: If you love Allah, then come and follow me, so that Allah may also love you. These people will plan and Allah will also plan and Allah is the Best of planners.

Allah is not such as to leave you till He has distinguished between the pure and the impure. My mercy covers you in the world and the hereafter. This day you are in a position of honour with Us. You are of those who are helped. You have a standing with Me of which the people have no knowledge. We have sent you in order to show mercy for the universe. O
Ahmad, enter Paradise along with your zauj. O Adam, enter Paradise along with your zauj.

This [zauj] means that everyone who associates with me, whether it is my wife or friend, will achieve salvation and will experience a heavenly life and will ultimately enter Paradise….

This station is by the Mercy of Allah, so that it may be a Sign for people. I determined to
establish a vicegerent on the earth and so I created this Adam. This Adam will establish the law and revive the faith.

This is a Messenger of Allah in the mantles of the Prophets—with good standing in the world and in the hereafter and one of those who have attained nearness to Allah.

I was a hidden treasure and I liked to be known. We shall make this servant of Ours a
Sign for the people and a mercy from Us and this was a matter determined since eternity.

O ‘Isa [Jesus], I shall cause you to die a natural death, that is your opponents will not
succeed in killing you, and shall raise you towards Me, that is will establish with clear
arguments and manifest Signs that you are near to Me, and shall purify you from the
charges of the disbelievers and shall place those from among the Muslims who follow you above your opponents till the Day of Judgment. A company of your followers will be from among the first and a company from among the last. They seek to frighten you of their mischief, but Allah will safeguard you Himself from the mischief of the enemies even if the people do not safeguard you and your Lord is Powerful.

Allah praises you from His Throne—that is, in contrast to the abuses of the people, Allah
praises you. We praise you and send down blessings on you. We shall suffice you against
those who mock you. They say: ‘This is a lie which he has fabricated; we have heard nothing like it from our ancestors.’ These ignorant ones do not realize that it is not hard for Allah to grant this station to someone. We have honoured some people above others. This status has been granted by the mercy of your Lord so that it should be a Sign for people. But these people have rejected the Signs of God unjustly and arrogantly while their hearts accept them.

Tell them: I have with me a special testimony from Allah; do you believe it not? Tell them again: I have with me a special testimony from Allah; do you submit or not. When they see a
Sign, they say: ‘This is just an ordinary thing; it has happened so since eternity.’ [And if they
see a Sign, they turn away and say, ‘A passing feat of magic.’] …Allah has decreed since eternity: I and My messengers will surely prevail—meaning that no matter how severe the opposition, people raised by God would never be vanquished. Allah is Supreme over His decree, but most people know it not. He it is Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and
the religion of truth, so that He might make it supreme over all religions. There is no changing the words of Allah. Those who have believed and have not adulterated their faith with any injustice are the ones who will be secure from every calamity and they are rightly guided.

Do not supplicate Me in the matter of those who have committed wrong; they are a people
drowned. They treat you with mockery and say: ‘Is this the one whom Allah has raised
up?’ They look at you but do not see you. Keep in mind when the one who will declare you a
disbeliever will plan against you… and will call upon his elder Haman to light the fire of
persecution saying: ‘Initiate the edict of apostasy yourself because people have greater regard for you and you can incite them all with your edict. Therefore you be the first to put a
stamp of approval, so that all ulema might be excited, and follow your stamp with their stamps. So that I should discover whether God is with this man or not though I consider him a liar.’ (Then he put the stamp.) Ruined is Abu Lahab and so are the two hands (one with which he held the edict and the other with which he put the stamp or wrote the edict). It did not behove him to intervene in this matter but in fear. Whatever pain will afflict you, it will be from Allah.

There will be a great trial after Haman puts a stamp on the edict of apostasy, then be steadfast as were steadfast the Prophets of high resolve…. This trial is from Allah, so that He
might love you with a great love. It is an everlasting love that will never be cut off. Your
recompense is with Allah. Your Lord will be pleased with you and will perfect your name.
There are many things that you like for yourselves but they are not good for you. And there are many things that you desire not, but they are good for you. Allah knows and you
know not.””””

Then the revelation came:

[Urdu] The Powerful One has manifested His affair; Those who called [me] a disbeliever have been seized.

At this point I recall a very clear vision which was as follows:

After Maghrib prayer, while I was fully awake, I was overtaken by a slight numbing of my faculties…and had a wonderful experience. First there was a sound of some people walking fast…and then five very dignified, holy, and handsome personages came into my vision. They were the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, Hadrat ‘Ali, Hasan, Husain and Fatimah al- Zahra’, may Allah be pleased with all of them. One of them, and I think it was Hadrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, out of great affection and kindness like a loving mother, placed this humble one’s head upon her thigh.

Then I was given a book concerning which I was told: ‘It is a commentary on the Holy Qur’an, which has been compiled by ‘Ali and now ‘Ali bestows it upon you.’ [Allah be praised for all this].

“””The treatment that my own people have accorded to me is well known and the hostility of other people towards me is natural. All of them have done their utmost to destroy me. They have contrived every project for doing me harm and have carried it to its limit. They have omitted nothing—prayers, declarations of the merit of slaying me, slander and defamation. Then which is the hand that safeguards me? Had I been a liar, God would Himself have furnished the means of my ruin and it would not have been necessary for people to devise methods for my ruin and be frustrated by God. Is it the sign of a liar that the Holy Qur’an should bear witness for him, heavenly signs should be manifested in his support, reason should uphold him, and those who desire his death should themselves die? I do not believe that after the age of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), any opponent of a godly or true person has suffered such clear defeat and disgrace as my enemies have on account of their opposition to me. When they attacked my honour they were themselves disgraced, and when they announced that I was a liar and I would die before them, they ended up dying before me.”””

[Tohfah-e-Golarhviyyah , Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 17, pp. 49-50](See also Essence of Islam, Vol. 3).

“””Fie on these people, for they do not honour that which God and His Messenger have said. Seventeen years of the century have passed, but their reformer is still hiding in some cave. Why are they so miserly towards me? Had God so willed, I would not have come. At times it comes
to my mind that I should supplicate Him to relieve me of this office and to appoint someone else in my place. But, at that very instant, it occurs to me that there can be no greater sin than to lack the courage to perform the service that God desires of me. The more I wish to retire, the more God Almighty pulls me forward. There is rarely a night during which I am not confronted with the words: “I am with thee and My heavenly hosts are with thee.”  The pure of heart will see God after death, but I swear by His countenance that I behold Him here and now. The world does not know me but He Who has sent me knows me. Those who seek my ruin are utterly mistaken and totally unfortunate. I am a tree planted by the Hand of the True Master. He who seeks to cut me down only desires to partake of the fate of Korah, Judas Iscariot and Abu Jahl. My eyes shed tears daily for someone to come forward and seek Judgement concerning me, according to the standard of prophethood, and then see on whose side God is; but coming forward for such a test is not the
business of every characterless person. There was one Ghulam Dastgir, one of the disbelieving hosts of the Punjab, who laid down his life in this attempt. It is now impossible for someone like him to come forward.

O Ye people, be sure that I am supported by the Hand that will be faithful to me till the end. If your men and your women, your young and your old, your small and your great, should all come together and supplicate for my ruin until their noses are rubbed out by their repeated prostration and their hands are numbed, even then God will not hear their supplication and will not desist till He has fulfilled His design. If not even a single person remains with me, God’s angels will be with me, and if you conceal the true testimony, stones will well nigh bear testimony in my support. Do not, therefore, wrong your souls. The false and the true have different countenances.  God does not leave any matter without judgement. I curse a life of falsehood and imposture, and the failure to serve the Creator for fear of His creatures. It is not possible for me to be lax in performing the service which God Almighty has appointed for me at its appropriate time, though the sun and the earth may join hands to trample me down. What is man but an insect and what is a human being but a lump of flesh? Can you then expect me to disobey the command of the Ever-Living and Self-
Subsisting One for the sake of an insect or a lump of flesh? In the end God has always judged between His commissioned ones and their opponents; He will do the same now. There is a season for the coming of God’s commissioned ones and a season for their departure. Be sure, therefore, that I have neither come out of season nor shall I depart out of season. Do not fight God. It is not within your power to destroy me.””””

“””How can God, Whose powerful hand supports heaven and earth and all that is between them, be frustrated by the designs of men? The day is near when He will announce His Judgement. It is a sign of the righteous that the end is always in their favour. God descends upon their hearts with His manifestations. How can that structure be demolished in which the true King has His abode? Revile me as much as you like, and devise whatever means of persecution you can think of, and make every plan for my ruin, but remember that God will soon prove that His hand is supreme. A foolish one thinks that he can win with his devices, but God rebukes him: ‘O accursed one, I shall frustrate all thy designs.’ Had God so willed, He would have bestowed sight upon these opposing
Maulavis and their followers, and they would have recognized the time and the season of the advent of God’s Messiah; but the prophecies of the Holy Qur’an and of the Hadith were bound to be fulfilled, which had predicted that the Promised Messiah would be persecuted by the Muslim divines who would denounce him as a disbeliever, condemn him to death, slander him and account him as being outside the pale of Islam and a destroyer of the faith.”””””

Can a living [person] perform namaaz behind a dead [person]? ‘Such behaviour is not appropriate; ‘Abdul Karim, the leader of Muslims, should be dissuaded from it.’  [Promised Messiah’s footnote about the above revelation]:

…This revelation contains guidance for the whole Jama‘at, that they should treat their wives with kindness and courtesy. Your wives are not your slaves. In point of fact, marriage is a covenant between man and woman.  Try therefore not to break this covenant. God Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an:

‘Lead a life of kindness and equity with your wives.’

And it is mentioned in a Hadith:

‘The best among you is he who is best towards his wife.’

Therefore, be good to your wives both spiritually and physically. Keep praying for them and avoid divorce. A person who is hasty in divorce is sinful in the eyes of God. Do not hasten to break like a dirty vessel that which God has brought together.””””

“The Holy Quran has declared the death of Jesus in the verses: ‘But when Thou didst cause me to die’ and the ‘messengers have already passed away before him’; similarly, in the verse: ‘This day have I perfected for you your religion’ and that ‘but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets,’ prophethood has been clearly brought to an end and it has been declared in clear words that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), is the Last of the Prophets (Khatam al-Anbiya) as has been stated in the verse: wa la-kin rasul-lul lahi wa khatam-an Nabiyeen (but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets). But those who bring Jesus back to this world believe that he would return with his prophethood and that Gabriel would be descending on him continuously for forty-five years with prophetic revelation (wahy-i nubuwwah). What is left then of the Finality of Prophethood (Khatm-i Nubuwwat} and the finality of prophetic revelation with such a belief? Rather, in that case, Jesus would be the last of the prophets (khatam al-anbiya).”

Tohfa Golarwia, First Edition, page 96)(See also “Truth Prevails”, online english edition, see page 71

“In short, the period of the first advent of the Holy Prophet Mohammad was the fifth millennium, manifestative of the glory of the name Mohammad. In other words the first advent was to manifest his awe and grandeur. But the second advent, which is pointed out in the verse: ‘And the other ones, of their number, who have not yet joined them’, is the manifester of the grandeur of the jamali name, as pointed out by the verse: ‘And I give the glad tiding of the advent of an Apostle, to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.’ The meaning of this verse is just this, that the promised Mehdi, whose name in heaven, in a figurative sense, is Ahmad when he appears the Holy Prophet Mohammad who really deserves this name, would shine forth in beauty, in the mantle of this Ahmad, figuratively so named… Therefore, just as for the Believer, it is essential to yield faith in other commandments, it is essential too, that he should hold, there are two advents of the Holy Prophet (a) the Mohammadi advent characterised by qualities of a great majesty and awe, under the influence of Mars, with reference to the Torah
we read in the Holy Quran: ‘Mohammad’ the Apostle of God, and those with him, hard to be impressed in their dealings with the unbelievers, gentle in their dealings with each other., (b) The second advent, Ahmadi, in a mantle of beauty, under the influence of Jupiter, with reference to the Injeel in respect of which the Quran says ‘Giving glad tidings of an Apostle to come after me, named Ahmad.’ Since the Holy Prophet, in his own self, and in all the chain
of his Successors, bears an evident likeness and similarity with Moses, Allah raised him in the colour and spirit of Moses. The Holy Prophet, however, had a hidden and sensitive likeness with Hazrat Isa as well therefore, in the manner of boruz, he manifested that hidden likeness, to the fullest extent, in his advent as Ahmad, the counterpart of Hazrat Isa”.

FOOTNOTE
“The subtle and extremely sensitive point is worth being well kept in mind, that the second advent of the Holy Prophet, which is the great, the perfect, and the full manifestation, is properly speaking the manifestation of the name ‘Ahmad’ alone. For the second advent falls at the end of the sixth millenium and the sixth millenium, is connected with Jupiter, among the Khunnas and Kunnas, which is the sixth satellite, and the effective quality of this star is that it
debars from bloodshed those entrusted with a mission and it stimulates intelligence, wisdom, and the power of reasoning. Therefore, even though it is true that in the second advent the
manifestation of the name ‘Mohammad’ is a manifestation in qualities of majesty and grandeur, running coincidently with a manifestation in qualities of gentleness and beauty. But that
manifestation in terms of majesty and grandeur has turned, or merged, into a close resemblance of the manifestation in terms of a gentleness and beauty, since the active quality, at the time, of the manifestation of majesty and grandeur is not characterised by the power so much of the sword, as by the power of the rational faculty. This is because the influence on the bearer of the mission would be the influence, and the shadow, of Jupiter, not of Mars. This is the reason why it has been repeatedly written down in this book, that the sixth millenium is the open and full manifester of the name Ahmad, basically which calls for a manifestation in beauty and grace.” (Tohfa Golarwia, First Edition, page 96)(See also “Truth Prevails”, online english edition, see page 72).

“Here the words messenger (rasul) and prophet (nabi) used for me in the divine revelation show that I am a rasul and nabi of God  the application of these words is by way of metaphor and simile. For it is definitely not inappropriate to apply the words rasul or nabi to a person who receives revelation direct from God and is definitely spoken to by God as in the case of prophets. On the other hand, this is an eloquent simile (isti’arah). That is why in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih al-Muslim, the Gospel and the book of Daniel and books of other prophets also I have been called by the name of prophet. In the books of some of the prophets the word ‘angel’ has occurred for me as a simile. The prophet Daniel has given me the name of ‘Mickael’ in his book. And in Hebrew, this word literally means ‘like God’.”

“”””I have already proved the death of the Messiahas and his spiritual exaltation….Now, after the death of the Messiahas, the next question is, what are the authorities contained in the Qur’an and Ahadith and other sources from which it is established that the Promised Messiah will appear from among the Ummah? I will set out these authorities below, please read them with care. Hopefully, God the Compassionate will guide you.

One of the arguments which prove that the Messiah who was promised to appear in this Ummah would be from among the Muslims is this Hadith set out both in Bukhari and Muslim and

It means that he will be your Imam from among you.  Since this Hadith relates to Jesusas and it is he who has been described in this Hadith as Hakam and ‘Adal [Arbiter and Judge], it follows, therefore, that the word Imam also refers to him. It is true that the words ‘from among you’ were addressed to the Companions of the Holy Prophetsa, but we know that none of them claimed to be the Promised Messiah. This, therefore, shows that the words ‘from among you’ are meant for
someone who, in the knowledge of God Almighty, would be a substitute for the Companions and is the one referred to in the verse:

And among others from among them who have not yet joined them.—Al-Jumu‘ah, 62:4

This verse shows that he will be instructed through the spiritual power of the Holy Prophetsa, and will, in this sense, be one of the Companions. This verse is further explained by the Hadith:

Had faith ascended to the Pleiades, it would be brought down by a man from among the Persians.

Here the quality which was particularized in the Promised Messiah and Mahdi has been attributed to this man from Persia. This quality is to replenish the earth with justice after it has been filled with wrongdoing and has become empty of faith and the belief in the Unity of God. Thus this man is the Promised Messiah and Mahdi; and I am he.

Just as the prophesied eclipse of the sun and the moon in the month of Ramadan has not occurred during the time of any other person claiming to be Mahdi, likewise, during the thirteen hundred years that have elapsed since the time of the Holy Prophetsa, no one has claimed, on the basis of Divine revelation, to be ‘the Man of Persia’ about whom the Hadith says that he will bring faith down from heaven.

“””In this revelation the family of my wife and my family are both described together as having been provided by God and both have been treated as praiseworthy to about the same extent. This is a clear indication that as my in-laws are descendants of Hadrat Fatimah, in the same way there is a mix of descent from Hadrat Fatimah in my genealogy through some of my grandmothers. The precedence given to my wife’s family in the revelation over my family is to stress the fact that she is a direct descendant of Hadrat Fatimah and I have partly inherited her blood.”””””

Tohfah-e-Golarhviyyah, Ruhani Khaza’in vol. 17, pp. 120-127].(See also Essence of Islam, Vol. 4).

“””One of the authorities that show that the Promised Messiah will appear from among the Muslims, is this verse of the Holy Qur’an:

Al-e-‘Imran, 3:111

This means: [O Muslims] You are the best of people who have been raised to benefit mankind and to repel the mischief of all Dajjals and of the Antichrist…

Every religious community is called upon to perform a particular service and has to contend against a particular enemy. It has been decreed that the Muslims would have to fight against the Antichrist. In a Hadith related by Nafe‘ bin ‘Utbah, which is set out in Muslim, it is stated that the Muslims will fight the Antichrist and will be victorious over him. The Companions of the Holy Prophetsa did not fight the Antichrist, but, according to the connotation of the verse ‘And from amongst others…’ the Promised Messiah and his Jama‘at were declared Companions of the Holy Prophetsa. It is also worth observing that in this Hadith, the Holy Prophetsa specified that his
Companions are those who would fight the Antichrist and he did not say that the Hebrew Messiah would fight him. The word ‘descent’ is used for respect and honour and indicates in this context that as in that age of turmoil, faith will ascend to the Pleiades and all spiritual leadership, learning, and instruction will fall into decline, the God of heaven will send someone whom He will have trained Himself without the intervention of earthly means, just as rain descends from heaven without the intervention of any human agency.

Another authority which indicates that the Promised Messiah will appear from among this same Ummah of Muhammadsa:

Al-Nur 24:56

which means, Allah has promised those people who believe and act righteously that He will make them successors in the earth as He made those successors who were before them.

The previous successors referred to in this verse are the successors from the people of Mosesas whom God had sent one after the other to establish and maintain the Law of Mosesas. No century was allowed to go by without the appearance of such a successor who came to revive the religion of Mosesas. The Holy Qur’an indicates that there were twelve such successors and
that the thirteenth was Jesusas, who was the Promised Messiah under the Mosaic law. In view of the resemblance which is established by the use of the word kama [just as] in this verse, it is essential that there should be a resemblance between the successors of Muhammadsa and the successors of Mosesas. To prove and firmly establish this resemblance, the Holy Qur’an mentions twelve Mosaic successors, each of whom was from the people of Mosesas and the thirteenth was Jesusas, who was the Khatam-ul-Ańbiya’ among the people of Mosesas, but did not actually belong to them. Then, pointing out the resemblance between the successors of the Mosaic dispensation and the successors of the Islamic dispensation, God clearly indicated that at the end of the Islamic dispensation there would be a Messiah and twelve successors in between so that figure of ‘fourteen’ should also correspond. Similarly, the Promised Messiah of the Islamic dispensation appeared at the beginning of the fourteenth century, just as the Promised Messiah of the Mosaic dispensation had appeared in the fourteenth century of the Mosaic dispensation. Thus, the distance of the two Messiahs from the Founders of their respective religions is the same….

If the second Messiah who was to come was to be the same Jesusas, this would contradict the Holy Qur’an, inasmuch as the Qur’an declares the Successors of the two dispensations to be distinct personalities, as is evident from the word kama [just as]. This distinction provides a clear authority which cannot be rejected even if the whole world were to combine against it. If the same person who was the last Successor of the first dispensation was to come back, the distinction between the two dispensations would disappear and the import of the word kama would be falsified. Such a thing would be contradictory to the Holy Qur’an and is, therefore, false

This is false, and everything that leads to a false conclusion is false.

It is worth remembering that in the verse:

As He made Successors from among those who were before them.—Al-Nur, 24:56

the same kama has been used which is employed in the verse:

As We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh.—Al-Muzzammil, 73:16

“The word min-ni (from me) used here, does not necessarily mean that ‘he will be from the Quraish,’ otherwise, this report would have simply mentioned Mahdi to be a Quraishite and could not have described the significance of greater importance. But the sense in which I have taken the word min-ni, evidently proves that he will inherit morals, excellences, miracles and unique mode of divine communication of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. This also proves that Mahdi will be from among those perfect ones who are perfect in their morals and are reflection (zill) of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), in these matters. This is the significance of the word min-ni.”

[Tohfah Golarhviah, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 17, pp. 128-133].(See also Essence of Islam, Vol. 4).

“”””The third question is whether or not it is established that the Promised Messiah should have come in our time. The following detailed arguments prove beyond any shadow of doubt that he must appear in our time.

[1] The first argument is that it is stated in Sahih Bukhari— known as the most authentic book after the Holy Book of Allah—that the Promised Messiah will come to break the cross at a time when the world would be rife with intemperance in word and deed. It does not require an investigation to find out that hundreds of thousands have been influenced by Christianity and the country is being greatly affected by heretical teachings. Hundreds of people from every family have not only turned away from Islam but have become sworn enemies of the Holy Prophetsa. Hundreds of books have been published in refutation of Islam and most of them are full of abuse and vilification. When we look back in the context of this calamity, we are compelled to conclude that no century has been as harmful to Islam as the thirteenth century or the one which is now passing. Reason requires that in this time of peril, when forces of opposition have erupted in the world and the internal condition of Muslims has seriously deteriorated, some reformer should appear to repel the mischief of the cross and to purify the internal condition of Muslims. Experience of the thirteenth century has shown that it is not an ordinary task to purify the poisonous winds that are blowing fiercely and affecting sections of every town and village. This opposition to Islam and the multitude of objections raised against it is in itself not something that can be taken lightly. The earth is in turmoil at this appointed time and is forcefully throwing out its poisons. Heavenly power is needed to repel this poison because only diamond cuts diamond. All this clearly proves that this is indeed the time of the appearance of the Promised Messiah….

[2] The second argument comprises some Ahadith and visions of the honoured saints and great divines which indicate that the Promised Messiah and Mahdi would appear at the turn of the fourteenth century. For instance, the Hadith:

Signs will appear after two centuries.

has been interpreted by many of the older and later scholars as meaning that signs would appear after two centuries of the second millennium have passed. This means that the birth of the Messiah and Mahdi, which will be a great sign, will take place in the thirteenth century and that he will make his appearance in the fourteenth century. That is why scholars and divines have held that the Promised Mahdi was bound to be born in the thirteenth century so that he could proclaim himself in the beginning of the fourteenth. Basing himself upon this and several other indications, Maulavi Nawab Siddique Hassan Khan Sahib has recorded in his book Hujaj-ul-Kiramah that he believed on the basis of strong evidence that the Promised Mahdi would appear at the turn of the fourteenth century…

A Hadith of Dar Qutni also proves that the Promised Mahdi would appear at the turn of the fourteenth century. The Hadith says:

The translation of the whole Hadith is: Our Mahdi has two signs which have not appeared for any Messenger, Prophet, or commissioned one, since the creation of heaven and earth. The signs are that in the same month of Ramadan, the moon shall suffer an eclipse on the first of the nights peculiar to such phenomenon, and that the sun shall suffer an eclipse on the middle of the days peculiar to these eclipses.

This means that at the time when the Mahdi will put his claim before the world and the world will reject it, this sign will appear in heaven in his support, and that this sign would be exhibited in the month of Ramadan which is the month in which the Word of God was revealed. The spiritual significance of the darkness would be that great wrong had been committed on the earth, for the one who had come from God had been deemed an impostor. This Hadith clearly determines
the fourteenth century as the time of the appearance of the Mahdi and provides great sign for those who deny him, inasmuch as the eclipses of the sun and the moon took place in this century.

This is the same Sign regarding which twenty years ago I was promised in Braheen-e-Ahmadiyya, namely, Tell them I have with me testimony from Allah, will you believe it or not? Tell them I have with me testimony from Allah, will you accept it or not? It should be remembered that although there are many proofs from Almighty God for vindicating my truthfulness and more than a hundred prophecies that have been fulfilled to which hundreds of thousands of people are witnesses, but in this revelation, this prophecy has been mentioned specifically, i.e. I have been given such a Sign which was not given to anybody else from the time of Adam to the present time. In short, I can stand in the sacred precincts of the Ka’aba and swear that this Sign is to testifying to my truth.””””

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad says those who believe in a prophet after Holy Prophet Muhammad are making THAT prophet into the Khatam al-anbiya (muslim.org)

“The Holy Quran, in the verses, ‘This day I have perfected for you your religion’, and ‘He is the Messenger of Allah and the Khatam an-nabiyyin’, has clearly ended prophethood with the Holy Prophet Muhammad. And it has said in plain words that the Holy Prophet is Khatam al-anbiya, as it says: ‘He is the Messenger of Allah and the Khatam an-nabiyyin’. But those people who bring Jesus back to the world believe that he will come to the world still bearing his prophethood, and that the angel Jibreel will continue to descend upon him with wahy nubuwwat for forty-five years. Now tell us, according to their belief, how can the finality of prophethood and the finality of revelation given to prophets (wahy nubuwwat) be maintained? Instead, one would have to accept that Jesus is the Khatam al-anbiya.”

“”””The next step is to prove that I am the one whose coming as the Promised Messiah was decreed for the beginning of the fourteenth century. This is proved by the fact that the eclipse of the sun and the moon has taken place at the time of my claim; and the mischief of the cross has assumed a special significance in my time. Through me God has established that the Promised Messiah was to appear from among the Muslims. God Himself has strengthened me, so that no clergyman can stand against me in debate, and God has so overawed Christian divines that they dare not confront me. This is because God has supported me with the Holy Spirit and has appointed His angel to accompany me. Therefore, no Christian priest can confront me. These are the people who used to say that the Holy Prophetsa exhibited no miracle and made no prophecy. Now they are challenged but they do not come forth. This is because God has put it in their minds that if they enter the field against me they can look forward to nothing but defeat. Just consider, who was it that stood up against the Christian clergy when the deification of the Messiahas was at its height and it was alleged that the Holy Prophetsa did not have the support of the Holy Spirit and his miracles and prophecies were denied? Who was it in whose support God Almighty showed such great miracles? Although hundreds of stories have been put forward which have no support, read my book Tiryaq-ul- Qulub and then say honestly who it is that has shown signs and the prophecies which are proved by the testimony of hundreds of thousands of witnesses who are still living. Who is it that challenges his opponents and puts them to shame every morning by inviting them to compete with him and show if they enjoy the support of the Holy Spirit? Is there anyone from amongst the Christians and Hindus and Aryas who can assert before me that the Holy Prophetsa displayed no sign? Thus God has perfected His argument. Denying the truth is not the sign of honesty and integrity.

God has made the truth crystal clear to every people and there is none under the sky who can compete with me with regard to the support of the Holy Spirit.

“”””The excellences of the men of God who have a relationship of love and friendship with Him are not confined to prophecies alone. Verities are disclosed to them and they are granted spiritual comprehension. The wonders and mysteries of the Shariah and proofs of the truth of Islam are revealed to them. The inner meanings of the Holy Qur’an and the fine points of the Word of God are miraculously conveyed to them. They become heirs to miraculous wonders and heavenly knowledge both of which are bestowed directly upon those whom God loves. They are favoured with special love and are invested with devotion and sincerity like Abrahamas. The Holy Spirit is
reflected in their hearts. They become God’s and God becomes theirs. Their prayers bring about extraordinary results. God’s jealousy is roused in their support. They are blessed with victory over their opponents in every field. Their countenances shine with the light of Divine love. God’s mercy comes down upon their dwellings like rain. Like a beloved child, they rest in the lap of God.  God displays greater wrath in their support than a wild tigress whose young is threatened. They are protected against sin, attacks of the enemies, and errors of teaching.  They are the kings of heaven. God hears their supplications in a wonderful manner, so much so that kings have recourse to them. The Lord of Glory resides in their hearts. They are invested with a Divine prestige and their countenances display royal self-sufficiency. They consider the world and its inhabitants to be less than a dead insect. They know only the One and melt under His fear every moment. The world falls at their feet, and it is as if God manifests Himself in human form. They are the light of the world and the pillar of this mortal universe. They are the princes of true peace and they are the sun that dispels darkness. They are hidden beyond hidden and no one truly recognizes them, except God, and no one truly recognizes God except themselves. They are not God but it cannot be said that they are distinct from God. They are not immortal but it cannot be said that they die. Can a wicked person, whose heart and thoughts and life are foul, ever resemble them? Certainly not, except for such resemblance as a shining pebble may sometimes have with a diamond.

When men of God appear in the world, a type of spirituality descends from heaven on account of the blessings that they enjoy and all temperaments are activated, and those whose hearts and minds have affinity with true dreams begins to experience such dreams and visions, as when rain brings down water from the sky the subsoil water also rises, and every kind of vegetation begin to sprout. On the contrary, if rain is held back over a period of time, the water in the wells also dries up. Thus the men of God are in fact heavenly water and with their coming the waters of the earth also swell.

“””It is absolutely wrong to say that Jesus (peace be on him) has ascended bodily to heaven. There is no proof of this in the Holy Qur’an nor in Ahadith, nor can reason accept it; indeed the Qur’an and the Hadith and reason all three reject it. The Holy Qur’an has clearly said that Jesus (peace be on him) has died, and the Hadith narrating the Me‘raj [Spiritual Ascent] of the Holy Prophetsa informs us that Jesusas has joined the souls of the departed Prophets (peace be on them), and has cut asunder completely from the earth. Reason tells us that it is not the way of Allah that a mortal body should ascend to heaven and, discarding all the characteristics of earthly life like eating and drinking etc., should join the souls who have suffered bodily death and have arrived in the hereafter. Reason can furnish no such instance. Moreover, as the belief that Jesus (peace be on him) ascended bodily to heaven is inconsistent with the Holy Qur’an, so is the doctrine of his bodily descent inconsistent with the Holy Qur’an.

The Holy Qur’an affirms the death of Jesus in the verses:

‘When Thou didst cause me to die.’—Al-Ma’idah, 5:118

‘Verily, all Messengers have passed away before him.’— Al-e-‘Imran, 3:145

‘This day have I perfected your religion for you.’— Al-Ma’idah, 5:4

‘But he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets.’—Al-Ahzab, 33:41

and proclaims the end of normal Prophethood after the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and clearly affirms that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is Khatam-ul- Anbiya’ by stating:

‘But he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets.’—Al-Ahzab, 33:41

But those who insist on bringing Jesus (peace be on him) back to the earth believe that he will return with the status of a Prophet and for forty-five years Gabriel shall continue to convey Prophetic revelation to him. What room does this doctrine leave for the belief that Prophethood ended with the Holy Prophetsa? According to them it is Jesus who is the Khatam-ul-Anbiya’.

“”””God Almighty deals with offenders in two ways, and offenders are of two types.  First, there are those offenders who do not transgress the limits, and though out of extreme bigotry they persist in their effort yet they do not carry their persecution to the extreme limit. These will be punished in the hereafter. God, the All-Knowing, does not seize them in this world inasmuch as their attitude is not one of severe hostility.  For the punishment of sins the appointed day is the Day
of Judgement.

Secondly, there are those offenders who transgress the limits in their wrongdoing and persecution and desire to rend the Messenger of God and the righteous like wild beasts and to wipe them out altogether, and to consume them like a blazing fire. With regard to such offenders who carry their wrath to the limit, the way of Allah is that His wrath is roused against them and they are punished in this world in addition to their chastisement in the hereafter. In the idiom of the Qur’an they are designated the maghdubi-‘alaihim.”””

“””This revelation was published in the Barahin-e-Ahmadiyyah twelve years before I was declared a non-believer. [This was the time] when Maulavi Muhammad Husain wrote out his declaration of apostasy and asked Miyan Nadhir Husain of Delhi to be the first to place his stamp of approval on it and thus declare me a non-believer and to publish it among all Muslims. Twelve years before this declaration and the stamp of approval from the above-mentioned Miyan [Nadhir Husain], this book [Barahin-e-Ahmadiyyah] had been published throughout the Punjab and India. Maulavi Muhammad Husain, who turned out to be the first to propound this declaration, after twelve years, was the one who laid the foundation of declaration of apostasy. Miyan Nadhir Husain of Delhi was the one to spread this fire throughout the country on account of his reputation. Here is a proof of God’s knowledge of the Unseen, inasmuch as this prophecy was made at a time when there was no cause or occasion for this declaration and Maulavi Muhammad Husain considered himself to be in my service. At that time God the Almighty revealed this prophecy. Anyone endowed with even minimal reason and intelligence should reflect whether it is within human power of mine or of anyone else to know, on the basis of intellectual conjectures, twelve years in advance, a storm, the fierceness of which would carry away a person like Maulavi Muhammad Husain—who professed such sincerity towards me—into such great error and along with him a person like Miyan Nadhir Husain who had said that no book like the Barahin-e-Ahmadiyyah had been published in the history of Islam. Indeed this is purely God’s knowledge [of the Unseen] which is termed a miracle.””””

“””Among the arguments which prove that I am the Promised Messiah, there are some signs that are personal to the Promised Messiah. A major sign among them is that the Promised Messiah must appear in the latter days as set out in the Hadith:

It will be in the latter days when tribulations will abound and the age will be approaching its end.

There are two kinds of indications to prove that these are the last days in which the Messiah should appear.

The signs set out in the Qur’an and the Ahadith which indicate the approach of the Day of Judgement and which have been clearly fulfilled. As, for instance, the eclipse of the sun and the moon in the month of Ramadan which is indicated in the verse:

Al-Qiyamah, 75:10

Then there is the discarding of camels as a means of transportation, as is clearly indicated in the verse:

Al-Takwir, 81:5

And the multiplication of irrigation canals which is obvious from the verse:

Al-Infitar, 82:4

And the continuous falling of stars as indicated in:

Al-Infitar, 82:3

And the occurrence of famines and the spread of epidemics and the scarcity of rain as contained in:

Al-Infitar, 82:2

And a total eclipse of the sun; thus spreading darkness as stated in:

Al-Takwir, 81:2

And the moving of the mountains as is generally understood to be the meaning of the verse:

Al-Takwir, 81:4

And the rising of the fortunes of the people who are wild, lowly, and unacquainted with noble Islamic virtues, as is obvious from the verse:

Al- Takwir, 81:6

And the multiplication of the means of communication and travel, whereby it will become easy for people to meet one another, which is an accepted interpretation of the verse:

Al- Takwir, 81:8

And publication of books, pamphlets and letters in all countries, as indicated in:

Al- Takwir, 81:11

And the corruption of the inner condition of the divines, who are the stars of Islam, which is a clear purport of the verse:

Al- Takwir, 81:3

and the spread of innovations, errors, and all kinds of disobedience and vices, as indicated in the verse:

Al-Inshiqaq, 84:2

All these signs of the approach of the Day of Judgement have been manifested and the world is in the grip of a great revolution…

Then there is the verse in Surah Al-Mursalat which indicates that a great sign of the approach of the Day of Judgement is that someone should appear and with his coming the number of Messengers should be determined.

This means that the last Khalifah in the chain of successors in the Islamic dispensation, whose name is the Promised Messiah and the awaited Mahdi, shall make his appearance in the last days. The verse is:

Al-Mursalat 77:12

i.e., the time when number of the Messengers will be determined. This means that with the appearance of the last Khalifah, the number of Messengers which had been determined by Divine decree and had been hidden, shall become manifest. This verse also clearly shows that the Promised Messiah will be from among the Muslims.”””””

All great Quraanic commentators write in the explanation of this verse that the final group of this nation, that is, Maseeh Mau`ood’s community, will be colored as [i.e., have the characteristics of] the Companions [of Muhammad] and like the Companions [of Muhammad], with whom Allaah be pleased, without any difference, will obtain grace and guidance from His Holiness [Muhammad], the blessings of Allaah and peace be on him. … His Holiness [Muhammad], the blessings of Allaah and peace be on him, has two advents or, in other words, it may be stated that His Holiness’ second coming into the world, the blessings of Allaah and peace be on him, in a ‘buroozee’ [projected or manifested or displayed] manner, had been promised, which [promise] was fulfilled by the appearance of the Maseeh Mau`ood and Mahdee Ma’hood”””

Indeed, the word Avatar, current among the Hindus, is in fact synonymous with the word Prophet. There is a prophecy in the Hindu scriptures that an Avatar will appear in the latter days who will possess the qualities of Krishna and will be his Buruz [re-advent by way of reflection]. It has been disclosed to me that I am that person. Krishna has two qualities: First, he is Ruddar, the slayer of wild beasts and swine—with reason and heavenly signs; Secondly, he is Gaupal, or nourisher of cows, that is to say, a helper of the pious with his spiritual breath. Both these are characteristics of the Promised Messiah and both these have been bestowed upon me by God Almighty.”””

(B) God Almighty has disclosed to me repeatedly in my visions that a person of the name of Krishan, who appeared among the Aryas, was a chosen one of God and was a Prophet of his time.

The expression Avatar which is current among the Hindus is in its essence synonymous with Prophet. There is a prophecy in Hindu scriptures that in the latter days an Avatar would appear, who will possess the qualities of Krishna and will be his reflection. It has been conveyed to me that I am that person. Krishan had two qualities; one, that he was Ruddar i.e. the slayer of wild beasts and swine, [evil characters] that is to say by reasoning and Signs; and, two, that he was Gopal i.e. the nourisher of cows, that is to say he was a helper of the virtuous through his spirit. Both of these are the qualities of the Promised Messiah and God has bestowed both of them upon me.

“”””(A) Once I was shown in a vision a person well versed in Sanskrit who was a great believer in Krishan [Krishna]. He stood before me and addressed the following words to me:

[Urdu/Hindi] O Ruddar Gopal, your praise is set out in the Gita.

I understood therefrom that the whole world whether Hindu, Muslim or Christian, is waiting for a Ruddar Gopal, but he has been described in different words and languages; and all are agreed that this is the time of his advent. All have set out two qualities for him: slayer of swine, and protector of cows. I am the one [possessing both these qualities]. Among the Hindus it has been proclaimed from ancient times that the subject of these prophecies would appear in the Aryavart, that is to say, in this country India. Those prophecies also set out names of places of his habitat but they are all metaphoric, subject to interpretation.

1980’s, Introducing the Books of the Promised Messiah (1983) by Naseem Saifi
Tohfai Golarhyiyya (Present for Golarhvi)

Hazrat Ahmad(as) say s that this book has been published in order to make truth easily understandable by the common man and he has offered a prize of 50 rupees also if the Golarhvi could answer and refute his arguments. This announcement concerning the prize of 50 rupees is published on the inside title. The book itself starts with the offer of a prize of 500 rupees and it is addressed to Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf and many other people who are mentioned in the text. The first name among the addressees is that of Maulvi Pir Mehr Ali Golarhvi.

Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf, Hazrat Ahmed(as) says, has said it emphatically in a gathering of well meaning persons that a false claimant to revelation could live as long as twenty-three years after his claim, he can even live longer. In other words, what Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf says is that to live twenty-three years after the claim of being a recipient of revelation is not proof of the truth of the claimant. Hazrat Ahmed(as) says that Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf’s assertion is not correct. He quotes the Holy Qur’ an to prove his case (wa low taqawaala alaina ba’zal aqaweel laakhazna minho bil yamin summa laqata’ana minhulwatin).

Hazrat Ahmad(as) says that Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf should not have disagreed with the verse of Holy Qur’an, of course what he could do was that he should have asked him (Hazrat Ahmed(as) for a proof of the truth of his claim.

Hazrat Ahmed(as) says that just as so many signs of God have been fulfilled in his case, he very much likes that the proof of his truth should also be presented to the people from the angle of his having lived more than twenty-three years after he claimed to be the recipient of revelation from God. He therefore offers a prize of 500 rupees to anyone who could prove that one could live as long as twentythree years after falsely claiming to be recipient of revelation from God. Hazrat Ahmed(as) next quotes his revelations of which he had been a recipient since long more especially those which are recorded in Brahin-i -Ahmadiyya.

There is a chapter on Jihad. In this chapter Hazrat Ahmed(as) tells his readers that Jihad is now suspended in accordance with the Hadith; it can be resorted to when the conditions prescribed by God and His Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, demand. Then follows a letter in Arabic addressed to Muslims of the Punjab, India, Arabia, Persia and other countries in connection with the suspension of Jihad. He asks them to compete with him in giving the news of the future, and if that be not possible in the acceptance of the prayer and if that also be not possible, in writing the commentary of the Holy Qur’an. Then, whoever wins should be considered better of the two.

The next chapter is a reply to Pir Mehr Ali Shah Golarhvi. Hazrat Ahmad(as) had asked him to pick some verses of the Holy Qur’an by lots and write a commentary on them. Whosoever could write better could be considered on the right. But Mehr Ali Shah declined the offer and issued a poster demanding that first a debate be held and if Hazrat Ahmed(as) is defeated he should take Baiat at the hands of Mehr Ali Shah and after that the writing of the commentary could be taken up. Hazrat Ahmed(as) exposes the hollowness of this demand by saying that there was no point in writing the commentary after one of them had taken Baiat at the hand of the other. He refers to his books (almost forty at that time) and says that so far as arguments are concerned everything has been said and made clear. Here, he starts proving once again that Jesus(as) had actually died; that is what the Holy Qur’an and Hadith say. He quotes verses of the Holy Qur’an and the text of the relevant Hadith.

Having proved the death of Jesus Christ(as), Hazrat Ahmed(as) says that the second step is to show that the Promised Messiah was to be a follower of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Here also he quotes the Holy Qur’an and Hadith and proves that it simply was not possible that the Promised Messiah had been some-body other than one of his followers.

In the epilogue, Hazrat Ahmed(as) says that according to the Holy Qur’an and the previous scriptures the appearance of three types of people is a sure sign of the advent of the Promised Messiah, Those three types are:

1. Masihud Dajjal, i.e. the vicegerent of Iblis (Satan). The person or the people who cover up the truth and misguide the people.

2. The appearance of Gog and Magog. According to the Torah, the people of the Western countries are Gog and Magog. Quite a number of their signs are mentioned which can prove conclusively as to who the Gog and Magog are.

3. The worms of the earth, i.e. the people who talk of God and their hearts are glad that they believe in God but the heavenly spirit has not entered into them and they are, therefore, the worms of the earth.

In this epilogue, he also quotes the prophecy by Daniel, in Hebrew with its transliteration and Urdu transIation. There is also a supplement to the book. In this supplement Hazrat Ahmed(as) gives a gist of the proofs of his being the Promised Messiah.
