We have found a reference from the ROR of Aug-1946 wherein the first edition of Malfuzat is quoted and MGA is quoted as saying how he dislikes smoking and called it a Bid’at. Ironically, in the same era, an African American low life drug dealer (Rashid Ahmad) converted to Ahmadiyya and mentioned how he saw Qadiani-Ahmadi Maulvi’s smoking outside of their temple in Chicago, he even mentioned that they smoked with a fist. He must have seen Sufi Muti-ur-Rahman Bengali, since he was the missionary-in-charge, and there were no additional Qadiani-Ahmadi Maulvi’s in the entire country.

Rashid Ahmad says:

They would hold their fist to their mouths and inhale the smoke from the cigarette, which would stick out from between their ring finger and pinky at a 45 degree angle. I was determined to get to the bottom of this moneymaking
scam, so I kept coming back at all the times for prayers (page 18)”””
