Intro
ISTIFTA’ (An Inquiry) was published at the Diya’ul-Islam Press, Qadian in 1897, shortly after the murder of Lekh Ram (March-7-1897). Allegedly, when MGA’s house at Qadian got raided, some of the alleged documents were published in the form of a book called, “Istifta” (An Inquiry). In 2025, the Qadiani-Ahmadi’s published an English translation.
Amir Haq discussed “Istifta” (An Inquiry) in terms of the murder of Lekh Ram (30:45 time stamp) and explains how in the 1886-1887 era, MGA was only prophecizing the downfall of Lekh Ram and his conversion to Islam. This was recycled by MGA in 1893.
In 2022, Qadiani murrabi Ayyaz Mahmood Khan told the world that Mir Nasir Nawab found out that the “Superintendent-Police” had arrived in Qadian and was coming to search MGA’s house to look for clues in the investigation into the murder of Lekh Ram (March-7-1897)(see also Dard, pages 528-529), (“Siraj-e-Munir”, pages 98-99).
This book also seems to contain a letter that MGA wrote to a number of people on May 1, 1897, and in this, he explained the purpose and the object of the book (See Hidden Treasures). I have posted many quotes in the below.

“””I beg to enclose a copy of the pamphlet named Istifta’. The motive which has led me to write it is that the Aryah Samajists entertain a false notion that Pandit Lekh Ram was murdered at my instigation. I am inclined to excuse them for this as they are entirely ignorant of the supernatural origin of prophecies. According to their belief, inspiration and revelation from God belonged only to hoary antiquity and now they have become extinct. In other words, a Divine manifestation is not eternal, but only a thing of the past. Therefore, they cannot reconcile to the prophetic phenomena with the present age. However, after a study of the pamphlet, it is hoped that it will not only clear me of the charge of participation direct or indirect in Pandit Lekh Ram’s murder, but will also be useful to those who deny the existence of prophetic revelation in this age and who consider the power of foretelling future events inconsistent with the laws of Nature. At any rate, this pamphlet will be found interesting and instructive by those, who sincerely seek the truth and a reply to the questions:
• Is there a God?
• If so, does He reveal future events to His elite?
I have answered these questions by fully explaining such reasons as conclusively as possible that the prophecy about Pandit Lekh Ram was actually revealed by God and that it was altogether out of the province of man’s capabilities and devices to devise his murder. I have repeatedly said that Pandit Lekh Ram had challenged me to make the prophecy concerning himself which, if fulfilled, was to be the sole criterion of the truth or falsehood of Islam and the Aryah faith, and when the prophecy was made, both the parties agreed to give it a wide publicity and awaited its result most anxiously. At last, it has been most clearly and definitely fulfilled. The most curious phase of the prophecy which has been thoroughly discussed in these pages is that it was published in clear and unequivocal words in the Barahin-e-Ahmadiyyah about 17 years ago when Pandit Lekh Ram was a boy of 12 or 13 years. The readers of this pamphlet must carefully consider this fact which, I believe, will improve their faculty of discernment and clearly show them the difference between the Divine and human prowess and satisfy their minds””.

“”(B) One of the prophecies concerning Lekhram was That is [Arabic] His matter will be settled in six.
…The events happened exactly in accordance with the indication in the prophecy. Lekhram was cut up on March 6 at the sixth hour of the day””.

“””Note by Hadrat Mirza Bashir Ahmadra: In general terms, the Promised Messiahas mentioned this prophecy on February 20, 1886 in an announcement (Majmu‘ah Ishtiharat, volume 1, page 98). Then in Barakat-ud-Du‘a’ (Ruhani Khaza’in, volume 6, pages 2–4), Karamatus-Sadiqin back title cover and A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam (Ruhani Khaza’in, volume 5, page 649) he narrated the revelations in detail.. In these, he wrote clearly that if Lekhram did not desist from his mischief, misdeeds, and abusing of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, he would die on a day after ‘Id within six years.
Lekhram wrote in his book that he has received a revelation from his Permeshwar that this man [the Promised Messiahas] would die of cholera within three years.
The events unfolded as the Promised Messiahas had prophesied that: Exactly according to it he died within six years through murder. As had been prophesied, he was cut to pieces, was cremated, and his ashes were dropped into a river just like the calf of Samiri””.

“”(C) A vision which has been vouchsafed to me by God Almighty shows that he will believe in the end. I do not know, however, whether his believing will be only like that of Pharaoh417 when he said
I believe that there is no God but He in Whom the children of Israel believe. (surah Yunus, 10:91) [Publishers], or whether he will believe like the righteous. [Allah knows best]””.
