Intro
Check out MGA and abrogation herein and here see MGA on 2:106. Allamah Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti, however, has written that there are only nineteen abrogated verses in the whole of the Quran according to the definition of the later day scholars. Shah Wali Ullah examined 19 verses and had found that 5 verses were abrogated, they are posted in the below (2:180, 8:65, 33:52, and 73:2-3).
Evidence for the abrogation (or not) of Quranic verses comes from collections of hadith, and tafsir. Eight hadith in Sahih Bukhari mentions abrogation:
- the abrogation of the direction of prayer (the changing of the Qibla from Jerusalem to the Ka’ba—at Mecca)[68]
- the abrogation Quran 2:184 is denied in #4505,[69] but this is contradicted in #4506,[70] and #4507.[71]
- Quran 2:240, which is supposed to have been abrogated by Quran 2:234, is referred to in #4530,[72] and in #4531.[73] Yet other scholars say it wasn’t abrogated since Quran 2:234 is mandatory mourning period without remarrying after her husband dies while Quran 2:240 is that inheritors don’t force her out of her husband’s house for a year unless she wanted to leave, which is why it says “then no blame on the guardians”.[74]
- that Quran 2:284 is abrogated is mentioned in #4545,[75] and #4546.[76]
