Introduction
Factually, the Quran proves that prophets had been killed, see 2:61, 2:87, 2:91, 3;21, 3:112, 3:144, 3:181, 3:183, 4:155, 5:70 (that’s 10 verses) in fact, 3;144 of the Quran tells us that even if Muhammad (saw) was killed, it wouldn’t mean Islam is false.

In 1880-1882, via Barahin-i-Ahmadiyya (Vol. 3, see pages 157-158)(See also Farid Responds, prophecy #4, 6:38 time stamp), MGA said that since the Jews killed the prophets, they are forever cursed and will never have a homeland. Watch my video explanation here.

In 1894, MGA argues that prophets getting killed does not disprove their claim and nor is it disrespectful. There are many prophets who were killed in their mission, Yahya (as) and his father (Zacharia [as]) are examples of this (1:32:50 time stamp)(See RK, vol. 7, p. 200, Hamamatul-Bushra).

In 1897, MGA began using this argument, in Anjam e Athim (Anjam-e-Atham, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 11, pp. 49-51](Essence of Islam, online english edition, Vol. 2).

In 1900 (via Arba’in), MGA invented the idea that via 69:44-46 in terms of his new theory that a false prophet never lives 23-years, whilst claiming to receive communications from Allah. MGA alleges that Maulawi Rahmatullah (aka Rahmatullah Kairanawi) and the late Maulawi Syed Al-e-Hasan had presented 69:44 and the 23-year rule to the Reverend Pfander (3 times) in their books “Izala-e-Auham” (see pages 71 and 72) and “Istifsar” (1850’s). MGA mentioned Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf (17 times)(See Arab’ain, online English edition, pages 71-72). Technically, the Bahai’s believe the same and use the same verse for Bahaullah (See ROR of August-1938).

In 1901, via the Al-Hakam of July 24. On page 6, MGA says that some opponents say that Akbar the king created his own religion and lived for 23 years but MGA says you need to show me a place where he said this is the revelation of God to me and lived for 23 years. On page 7, MGA claims that no person can claim prophethood and live for 23 years (see in the below).

In 1902, MGA contradicted himself and said (See Tohfa Golarvia, RK volume 17 page 103), he says death by killing of a prophet is no proof that the prophet is not a true prophet and then on same page later he says if Esa did not die on cross then Yahya (as) also did not get killed but was lifted up to heaven alive.

In 1904, an Ahmadi asked the editors of the Al-Hakam to explain why Bahaullah was allowed to live over 23 years after his claim of being the Messiah.

In 1905, MGA and his team of writers quoted 69:44 of the Quran (69:45 in the Kadiani Koran) and argued that that a person who makes a false claim to being a tax collector or even a peon in a man-made kingdom, he is apprehended and punished. Then can there be such disorder in the Kingdom of God? So, while this is the prescribed method, why is it avoided? I stand before the people, and if I am acting deceitfully, then God Almighty will destroy me with such a punishment that people will learn a lesson from it, whereas if it is from God— and indeed it is from God—then the other people will be destroyed (See Malfuzat-7, online English edition, pages 123-124, via Al-Badr, vol. 4, no. 6, p. 3,4, dated 18 February 1905 and al-Hakam, vol. 9, no. 7, p. 2,3, dated 24 February 1905).

Allegedly, in 1907, via Malfuzat-9 (published in 2024)(this is undated and might not be in the Urdu editions), MGA called Yahya (as) as a shaheed and even compared his qatal with the qatal of Syed Ahmad in Kashmir by the Sikhs.

In 1907, MGA and his team of writers quoted 69:44 of the Quran (69:45 in the Kadiani Koran) and argued that that a person who makes a false claim to being a tax collector or even a peon in a man-made kingdom, he is apprehended and punished. Then can there be such disorder in the Kingdom of God? This verse is clearly stating that a fabricator of any wahi or ilham from God is apprehended promptly and dies in failure (See Malfuzat-9, online English edition, page 169, via Al-Hakam, vol. 11, no. 9, p. 10, dated 17 March 1907).

In 1908 (March), MGA and his team of writers quoted 69:44 of the Quran (69:45 in the Kadiani Koran) and argue that if anyone alleges to get diving revelations from God and is lying will be killed by Allah. MGA doesn’t understand why Muslims only apply this verse upon Muhammad (saw)(MGA is inferring that it applies on him as well)(See Malfuzat-10, online English Edition, pages 197-204, via Al-Hakam, vol. 12, no. 18, p. 4–5, dated 10 March 1908). In 1908 (July), after MGA died, MGA and his team alleged that on May-17-1908, MGA quoted 69:44 of the Quran (69:45 in the Kadiani Koran) and argued that anyone could have killed MGA with a knife. (See Malfuzat-10, online English Edition, page 544, via Al-Hakam, vol. 12, no. 41, p. 2–13, dated 14 July 1908).

In 1943, the ROR of Oct. discusses 69:44 and an opponent of MGA, Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf. It explains how Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf counter-argued with MGA and said that 69:44 is not a valid argument the way that MGA was using it. MGA was using it to prove that since he was still alive, he must be a true prophet. Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf counter argued that this verse was only about Muhammad (Saw) and not all the prophets, since prophets have been killed in the past (See Dard)(See Arba’in).

However, in 2000, Mirza Tahir Ahmad (MTA) denied that Yahya (as) was killed and even asserted that he escaped and lived in Greece and died, however, MTA didn’t give any references (See on tiktok and twitter).

In 2021, in shameful way, Mirza Masroor Ahmad alleged that prophets had been killed and this rule only applies to the first or last prophet in a system or if Allah gave them a wahi about protection.

In 2025, Bro Imtiaz highlighted all of this in this video, see all the time stamps herein.

This is actually a quote from a question posed to al-Hakam. The Al-Hakam presented this to their team, however, they didn’t answer question. This was in terms of prophets living more than 23 years. The questioner asked the editors as to why Bahaullah lived so long after his claim.

“Bahá’u’lláh, who claimed to be Messiah (مسیح) in 1269 A.H. remained alive till 1309 A.H.”

Background on Chapter 69

Per the official Ahmadiyya commentary on the Quran, Chapter 69 was revealed very early on during the meccan period. This is when Muhammad (saw) had newly claimed to be a prophet, and Allah had assured Muhammad (saw) that he was in fact a prophet, and if he wasn’t, Allah would have already ended his life for lying. This is exactly what Ibn Kathir wrote in his famous tafsir. Further, at the time when this Ayah was revealed, Muhammad (Saw) had barely claimed prophethood, 23 years hadn’t elapsed. Moreover, this ayah was for Muhammad (saw), to clear his doubts.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________The Quran on the killing of Prophets

The Quran repeatedley refers to how the Jews killed true prophets of Allah. In fact, Yahya (As) was assassinated. A whopping 10 verses of the Quran prove that prophets were killed, 2:61, 2:87, 2:91, 3;21, 3:112, 3:144, 3:181, 3:183, 4:155, 5:70 it wasn’t a new thing.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Nevertheless, even MGA wrote about Yahya as follows:

1891— Izala Auham, RK volume 3 page 314, he calls yahya (AS) to be Shaheed

1902—in tohfa golveria RK volume 17 page 103, he says death by killing of a prophet is no proof that the prophet is not a true prophet and then on same page later he says if Esa (AS) did not die on cross then yahya AS also did not get killed but was lifted up to heaven alive.

______________________________________________________________________________________________
MGA contradicts himself

Obviously, we see MGA making the argument that if any prophet lasts 23-years, he must be true, nonetheless, MGA contradicts himself just a few years later, in a book that is backdated to 1900, however, published in 1902, i.e. Tofa Gulariva. Why did MGA always make opposing arguments? The answer is….to create wiggle room and in this case..they created it in case of the murder of MGA.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________The Quran on the killing of prophets, Part-2

So remember, the Ahmadi-mullah will do anything for job security. So Malik Ghulam Fareed, the author of the 5-volume commentary by the Qadiani branch, when it came to 2:91 (see page 150_, and 2:62, they purposely re-interpretted a clear verse of the quran only to promote the idea that prophets cannot be killed. Malik Ghulam Farid writes that the phrase “would kill the prophets”, doesn’t actually mean to kill the prophets, but to attempt to kill the prophets (See page 125 of the 1988 5 volume commentary.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________Even if Muhammad (Saw) was killed, we would still believe in Islam

The Ahmadis seem to forget how in 3:144, Allah categorically tells us that if Muhammad (SAW) is killed in battle…its nothing new.  Prophets have been killed in the past.  Here is the quotation:

“”””With regard to their being routed, when it was rumoured that the Prophet had been killed and the hypocrites had said to the believers, ‘If he has been killed, go back to your [previous] religion’, the following was revealed: Muhammad is only a messenger; messengers have passed away before him. Why, if he should die or is slain, like others, will you turn back on your heels, will you return to unbelief (the last statement is the locus of the interrogative of denial, in other words, ‘he was not a worshipped being, so that [if he were to die] you should turn back [to your previous religion]’). If any man should turn back on his heels, he will not harm God in any way, but will be harming himself, and God will requite those that are thankful, for His graces by staying firm.”””

Were Hazrat Yahya (as) and Hazrat Zachariah (as) murdered?

In 2021, in shameful way, Mirza Masroor Ahmad alleged that prophets had been killed and this rule only applies to the first or last prophet in a system or if Allah gave them a wahi about protection.

Were Hazrat Yahya (as) and Hazrat Zachariah (as) murdered?

Someone wrote to Hazrat Amirul Momineen, Khalifatul Masih V and asked, “Were Hazrat Yahyaas and Hazrat Zachariahas murdered, or does ‘murder’ denote the destruction of their message?”

Huzooraa, in a letter dated 11 August 2020, gave the following guidance:

“Just as there is a difference of opinion found in the books of history and sirah and among the views of the classical scholars regarding the murder of Hazrat Yahya and Hazrat Zachariah, peace be upon them, so is there also a difference of opinion in the Jamaat on this among the Khulafa-e-Ahmadiyyat in light of their reasoning from the verses of the Holy Quran and their interpretation of ahadith.

“My view in this regard concurs with the opinion of Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra. In light of the Holy Quran, the ahadith of the Holy Prophetsa and the guidance given by the Promised Messiahas, I hold the position that the first and last prophet of any dispensation or a prophet about whom Allah has promised that He would safeguard him from the reach of the people, cannot be killed. Apart from them, being killed is not a bad thing per se for the rest of the prophets and it does not tarnish the honour of a prophet because being killed is also one way of being martyred. However, being killed in a state of failure does not behove prophets. Hence, when a prophet has completed his work, then there is nothing wrong with him dying naturally or being martyred by someone else because no one is astounded at someone’s death in a state of success and neither does the enemy rejoice in such a death.

“Thus, Hazrat Yahyaas and Hazrat Zachariahas were not the first or the last prophets of any dispensation, nor is there any promise of God Almighty mentioned somewhere about them that He would certainly safeguard them from the hands of the enemy. Moreover, we believe that when these prophets were martyred, they certainly must have fulfilled their responsibilities which, Allah had entrusted to them, in the best possible manner.”
