Intro
My team and I have across some interesting information in terms of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and 17:8 of the Quran (17:9 in the Qadiani Quran). The Urdu reference for this is RK, vol. 1, page 601, this most likely corresponds to the original edition of Braheen e Ahmadiyya vol. 4. The 1988 edition of RK will have a different page number. The reference appears in the online english edition of Braheen e Ahmadiyya, vol. 4, page 382. Furthermore, Zahid Aziz, a Lahori-Ahmadi has discussed this entire issue herein.
Other Quranic verses that MGA claimed for himself in 1884 are as follow: 48:28, 61:09, 9:32, 21:107, 10:16 and 48:29. It should be noted that in the online english edition, this verse isn’t properly quoted by the Qadiani’s, nor do they acknowledge it as a verse of the Quran.
See Farid Responds explaining this at 3:04 time stamp, after alleging that he (MGA) is like the prophets. MGA alleges to have gotten a revelation from his God which is in reality 17:8 of the Quran (17:9 in the Kadian Koran). MGA then asserts that this verse is actually a prophet about the return of “Hadrat Maseeh”. However, after 1891, MGA never made this argument again, in fact, NO Ahmadi commentary ever used this explanation (Lahori or Qadiani). A few pages later, on page 398 (of BA-4), MGA quoted 3:55 (3:56 in the Kadiani Koran) and argued that that Inni-Mutawafeeka (3:55), wa Raffa, as: I shall give you full reward and shall raise you towards Me. However, on page 434, MGA translates the same verse as:
“””O ‘Isa, I shall give you full reward or cause you to die and shall raise you towards Me, meaning that I shall raise your status or will raise you from the life on earth towards Me, and I shall
grant predominance to your followers over those who disbelieve, until the Day of Judgment”””.
In 1890-ish, MGA claimed to be “Maseel-e-Maseeh” only (See Izala Auham, Part-1). A few months later, he claimed to be the Messiah.
In 1892, MGA confessed that before the publishing of the Barahin i Ahmadiyya series, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad already knew that he was the second coming of Esa (as).
In 1902, (Via Noah’s Ark, page 81), MGA admitted that he was confused on being Eisa (as) aka the promised messiah in the 1880’s. It was a secret.
MGA confirmed all of this again in 1906-1907 (via Haqiqatul Wahi), MGA admitted that he believed that Eisa (as) was alive in the 1880’s and he misunderstood it and instead claimed to be “Maseel-e-Maseeh” instead.
This was also confirmed in 1947 (see Dard explaining the same). Continue reading “Mirza Ghulam Ahmad quoted and commented on 17:8 in 1884 in the Braheen-e-Ahmadiyya, vol. 4, he then connected 17:8 with the return of the Messiah”
