"Ahle Hadith"

What is the “Ishaat-us-Sunnah”–the Ahle hadith newspaper edited Muhammad Hussain Batlavi

Intro
This was a newspaper started by the famous Maulvi Muhammad Hussain Batalvi in 1878. Upal quotes Vol. 3 of it which corresponds to 1881. It was the main newspaper of the Ahl-e-hadith aka Wahabbi’s of the Punjab. Furthermore, MGA was heavily involved with the Ahl-e-Hadith, in fact, they helped him get married in 1884 and performed all the islamic rituals. This newspaper seems to have went defunct by 1900, since there are no quotes to it after Vol. 22, which would correspond to 1900. The Ahl-e-Hadith then seem to have started another newspaper entitled, as ‘Ahl-i-Hadis. In fact, much of the beef between Maulvi Sanuallah and MGA seems to have began at this moment. Furthermore, it is important to note that Batalvi was not even allowed to insult MGA legally, hence, he never did after the court case of 1899.

As everyone knows, this was the famous “Ahl-e-Hadith” newspaper that made MGA popular and gave him an opportunity to do free marketing. In February of 1878 he started publishing the magazine Isha‘atus Sunnah. It was a voice of the Ahle Hadith movement in the Punjab of the time. The magazine became quite popular and was recognized by notable scholars and Government Officials. When Sir Charles Umpherston Aitchison, Governor of the Punjab from 1882-1887,[7] left the area in April 1887, he gave Muhammad Hussain, a certificate testifying to his ability and learning. Muhammad Hussain proudly records this fact.[8]

I present some interesting quotes in the below. Muhammad Husain’s request for a Mubahila vs. MGA may be seen in his lsha‘atus-Sunnah No. 3, Vol. 18, p. 77, 1. 11: No. 12, Vol. 14, pp. 338-339; No. 7, Vol. 18, p. 197, 11. 6-8.

Ahle Hadith newspaper vs. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and his situation with Dr. Abdul Hakim Khan of Patiala

Intro
Dr. Abdul Hakim Khan of Patiala was kicked out of Ahmadiyya in 1906 by MGA, however, he was able to get MGA to claim that any Muslim who rejected MGA was a Kafir, indefinitely. Nonetheless, some of the local newspapers that were hostile to Ahmadis wrote about the death of MGA and some of the counter prophecies which led up to MGA’s death in Lahore.

An important quote

“But, we expected this to happen soon, as had been announced by Dr. Abdul Hakim of Patiala. The doctor had stated, ‘My revelation concerning Mirza of Qadian, which may kindly be published, is that: (1) The Mirza will die on the 21st day of Saavan, 1965 (4th August, 1908) of a fatal disease. (2) A distinguished woman of the family of Mirza shall also die.’ [Weekly Ahle Hadith: 15.5.1908]. However, we cannot refrain from saying what is true. Had the doctor stopped at what he had stated before, that is, his prediction of Mirza’s death within fourteen months and not fixed a specific date as he has done then those objections could have never been raised as are being raised today by the Paisa Akhbar of the 27th, wherein it is stated that had the prophecy been left as, ‘up to the 21st of Saavan’ and not altered to, ‘on the 21st of Saavan’ it would have, indeed, been wonderful. But alas, his revelation that Mirza will die on the 21st of Saavan, that is 4th of August, has been published in the Ahle Hadith issue of 15th May, 1908. We wish that he would have left his earlier revelations unaltered, without giving a specific date. Then there could have been no excuse.”

(Ahle Hadith, 12 June 1908)

Why did Batalvi and other Ahl-e-Hadith scholars praise the British Government?

Intro
In British-India, anti-government sentiment was not allowed, freedom of speech was not allowed, freedom of religion was only allowed to let the Christian missionaries in and to divide the Indian Muslims and Hindu’s. Thus, Batalvi wrote Pro-British, since he had no other option, however, this was all lip service, Muslims weren’t authentically supporting the British. In the below, you will see some scans from the Ishaat us Sunnah magazine, wherein Batalvi talks about MGA. The quote from Vol. 16 seems to be from 1896-97.

On the other side, Ahmadi’s were authentically supporting the British Government and even gave Quranic evidence, like 4:59.

The #Ahmadiyya approach to hadith is totally against common sense and the 4 schools of thought

Intro
#Muslims should never discuss #hadith with #Ahmadis. The reason is quite simple, #ahmadis are taught to follow the revelations of MGA first, then they approach hadith and the Quran. #Ahmadis are essentially working backwards. The #wahabi approach to hadith seems to be the same. It seems that MGA was also a #wahabi (called #ahlehadith in British India), and thus took this from them. Sir Syed was also a Muslims of a #ahlehadith background, however, by 1875, he turned into a Quranist, which is totally fine, we don’t care, we allow Muslims to be adventerous in their beliefs, by 1877, Sir Syed denied the concept of the Mahdi. Nevertheless, this is what the British wanted in India. The British wanted to break Muslims reliance on Hanafi Fiqh, which was used by the #mughalempire as well as the #ottomanempire. In Saudia Arabia, the British created #wahabism and had them do a Jihad against the last Muslim empire, the Ottomans. The Ottomans controlled the oil in Iraq (al-basra) and had to be eliminated, thus they were taken out systematically and a puppet government was installed in Turkey in roughly 1924.

In the below, we have posted the reference from the 1900-1902 era wherein MGA confirms to #Ahmadis (and the world) that his revelations are above any and all hadith and any hadith which don’t match MGA’s revelations should be immediately discarded. We have also posted a reference from 7 years earlier, wherein MGA admits that after the Quran, Bukhari is the most authentic book. We have also posted scans from the English-ROR, which also prove the same.

Furthermore, in terms of hadith, especially when it comes to the Mahdi. #ahmadis cherry pick only 2 hadith, since the other 20+ hadith prove MGA to be a liar. Those 2 hadith are the famous one wherein it is claimed that “No Mahdi, except Esa” (which has been listed by the scholars are a lie) and the shia hadith on the eclipses. These are some classic cases wherein #ahmadis cherry pick as they work backwards to prove that MGA was true. As we all know, initially, from 1880–1891, MGA never mentioned the Mahdi at all. Then, in 1891, as he made his claims of being a Messiah, he was silent on the concept of the Mahdi. In 1892, MGA began to write that all the hadith on the Mahdi were faulty. By 1894, after reading about the pending eclipses, he fraudulently authenticated a Shia hadith that wasn’t even fulfilled properly. After MGA died, in the BA-5 (ocotober-1908), MGA’s ghost writers again wrote that all hadith about the Mahdi were wrong.

In 1895, MGA wrote some different things on his formula of what Islam is
Arya Dharam, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 10, pp. 86-87

“Of the other books that are accepted by us the Sahih of Bukhari ranks as the first. All its Ahadith which are not opposed to the Holy Qur’an are in our view authoritative. Next comes Sahih Muslim. We accept its authority subject to the condition that it should not be opposed to the Holy Qur’an and Sahih Bukhari. Next to them are the compilations of Tirmidhi, Ibn-e-Majah, Muattah of Imam Malik, Nassa’i, Abu Da’ud and Dar Qutni, which we regard as authoritative so long as they are not opposed to the Holy Qur’an and Bukhari and Muslim. These are our religious books and these are the conditions under which we accept them….(…)”

MGA forced Noorudin to pretend to be Hanafi, even though he was a Wahabbi aka Ahl-e-Hadith

Intro
Nooruddin and MGA were both Ahl-e-Hadith (aka Wahabbi) type of Muslims before 1889.  In fact, MGA’s nikkah was read out by the top Ahl-e-Hadith mullah in North India in 1884.  Wahabbi’s or Ahl-e-Hadith don’t follow any of the 4 schools of Sunni Islam. You can read about Noorudin’s affiliation to the Ahl-e-Hadith herein. He also had a connection with the Deobandi’s.  MGA wanted to Noorudin to pretend to be Hanafi, since this was required for Noorudin to marry a very young Sughra Begum. Read our detailed essay on this topic here. One more piece of evidence, per Ahmadiyya sources, Maulvi Noorudin visited the Wahabi controlled Arabia, and was allowed to enter Mecca at perform Hajj in 1866 (see page 23), this is most likely when he converted to Wahabism.

Maulvi Noorudin was a Ahl-e-Hadith type of Muslim

Intro
I have written about the role of Noorudin in Ahmadiyya development many times in the past.  What Ahmadis hate to mention is that Nooruddin’s Ahmadi-sons were forcibly kicked out of Ahmadiyya in the 1950’s, it was a messy divorce. In fact, One of Nooruddin’s sons went  on to represent he Lahori-Ahmadi’s in court in 1974, as the Lahori’s presented their case to the famous NA assembly. Nevertheless, Noorudin’s eldest daughter (Amamah or Imamah) was married into the Ghaznavi family, to a son of Abdullah Ghaznavi. This marriage must have happened in the 1880’s, Ahmadiyya sources don’t give a date (“”Hakeem Noor-ud-Deen – Khalifatul Masih I – The Way of the Righteous”” by Syed Hasanat Ahmad see page 40). They had 2 sons and one daughter and seemed to have also moved to Qadian. Amama died mysteriously in 1897 per Ahmadiyya sources, this entire family seems to have also lived with MGA in his mansion. Later on, these children would grow up and challenge their cousins in the Ahrars and the Ahmadiyya conflict their in the 1930’s (See Adil Hussain, “From Sufi-ism to Ahmadiyya”). Ahmadiyya leaders were are connected to Nawab Siddiq Hassan Khan also. In fact, the princess of Bhopal was married to Nawab Siddiq Hassan Khan and was the single biggest donor towards the failed Braheen e Ahmadiyya series.

In 1897, MGA was caught at a house of a famous prostitute in Lahore, “Lucky Tawaif”

Intro
It seems that in 1897 MGA came to Lahore from Multan. In Lahore, MGA was staying at a known prostitute’s house, called “Lakhi Twife” (Lucky the expensive prostitute). This was very close to the famous Sunehri Mosque (aka Golden Mosque). Somehow, Muslims found out that MGA was in town and showed up to the location and demanded a debate, these were Muhammad Baksh of Lahore (manager of the Ja‘far Zatalli, Tajul Hind
Press), Jaffar Zatalli and Munshi Muhammad Din “popped-up” on MGA and his team and demanded a debate, MGA refused and hurriedly left. Yahya Khan has admitted that this was a proper reference. It should be noted that this wasn’t the first time that MGA had been caught in a red light district situation, in fact, 5 years earlier, MGA was in the red-light district of Lahore. MGA never denied these allegations in any book or announcement.

After all of this happened,  Syed Muhammad Hussain Batalvi published the story in his newspaper, the Ishaat us Sunnah No. 9, Vol. 18, Oct-29-1897, the title of the essay is the heading is “Qadiani kishcuz”.

In 1879, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was outwardly promising to target Christian missionaries in India

Intro
In 1879, MGA seems to be paying to get his “Barahin-i-Ahmadiyya” announcements published in local newspapers. These announcements got responses, many Christian missionaries (we don’t know who) and Hindu’s were offended and used harsh language towards MGA via the newspapers Safir-e-Hind and Nur Afshan, and the magazine Viddya Prakashak. They were ready to write rebuttals too (See BA-2, page 65, online english edition). It should be noted that prior to MGA’s clash with Christians in 1880, MGA had allegedly wrote articles in 1872 for the famous newspaper from Bangalore, South India entitled “Manshur-e-Muhammadi”. It’s unclear what MGA wrote about. And 10 years before this, MGA allegedly had conversation with Reverend Butler in Sialkot about Christianity (1864-1868 in Sialkot). Thus, it is proven that up to 1880, MGA didn’t verbally debate any Christians. In 1882, (Via Barahin-i-Ahmadiyya-4, see page 198, online english edition), MGA openly attacked the character of Padre Imad ud Din, 10 years later, MGA had his only debate vs. Christians (Athim) and Padre Imad ud Din was there. In spite, MGA let off 1000 curses vs. Padre Imad ud Din about a year later. However, 5 years later, MGA said he did this to protect Christian missionaries from being killed by fanatical Muslims

150 years ago: The King of the Pen publishes his first article in defence of Islam (alhakam.org)

In BA-1-2, MGA criticized Christians for their views on the sinlessness of prophets and etc. MGA then criticized the Arya-Hindus for the exact same issue (See pages 111-114). On page 155, MGA specifically announced that his Barahin-i-Ahmadiyya would be of great advantage to the Muslims vs. Christians.

“Did-e-Haq” (Sighting of God) By Mirza Imam ud Din (cousin of MGA)

Intro
MGA’s cousin-brother Mirza Imam ud Din wrote books vs. MGA. “Did-e-Haq” (Sighting of God) was mentioned by Dard in 1947 in his famous “Life of Ahmad“, see the quotes in the below.

Dard also explained how Mirza Imam ud Din wrote “The Story of Each of the Two Kafirs” (in this he declares MGA and Muhammad Husain Batalwi as kafirs) and Gul Shiguft, etc. (See Dard, page 708). “Did-e-Haq” (Sighting of God) was also mentioned in 2023 by the Qadiani-Ahmadi Asif Basit (an official employee of the Qadiani’s).
