Intro
Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti was born in 1858 (see Dard, page 816, 2008 online edition, the original was published in 1948), he died on Oct. 11th, 1905 (see english ROR, November-1905 pages 446-447). He was a follower of MGA from roughly 1889 to his death in 1905. We don’t talk about people’s death normally, however, in the case of Ahmadiyya, we are forced to, since all Ahmadi’s wish a miserable death upon us. Moreover, MGA wished a miserable death on all his critics. Hence, we are forced to write about these types of situations.

He seems to have had 2 wives, Zainab Bibi and Ayesha (who got married to Ghulam Muhammad Qadiani after Abdul Karim died in 1905, the marriage happened in August of 1906), she seems to have gotten married to Abdul Karim in 1900, after he died, she worked as a masseuse of MGA until she got married to Ghulam Muhammad Qadiani.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________MGA knew Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti since the 1860’s

They never met in this era, however, MGA must have known some relatives of Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti. Maulvi Abdul Karim’s father was the Municipal Commissioner in the Sialkot Municipality, his name was Chaudhri Muhammad Sultan. Its quite possible that MGA’s father knew Abdul Karim’s father and they helped MGA get this job.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________Pre–1889, Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti was influenced heavily by Sir Syed, before he met MGA

He was influenced heavily by Sir Syed and the Wahabi aka Ahl-e-hadith Movement in North India.

Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was a student of Noorudin, pre-1891

In 1904, in the english ROR for June, in an article entitled, “The Sinless Prophet”, Maulvi Abdul Karim explains how MGA had already made his claims in 1890, in fact, Maulvi Abdul Karim spent the night at his house in Batala and they discussed MGA’s newest claim of being the “Promised Messiah in detail.

Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti and his wife moves into MGA’s home. Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti, Amrohi and Noorudin become the imams of the mosques at Qadian. Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti’s young wife also seems to move in.

He reads out MGA’s book, “ASMANI FAISALAH” in english as “The Heavenly Decree” at the first ever Jalsa Salana in Ahmadiyya history.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti was also a ghost writer and editor and speech giver

He used to translate Mirza’s writings into Farsi and Arabic, and also read out his speeches and sermons. He has been variously described as one of the two ‘angels’ on whose shoulders the Messiah landed.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________After taking bai’at,

Maulvi Abdul Karim frequently visited Qadian to spend time in the company of the Promised Messiah and to benefit from his spiritual and learned discourses. He made it a point to accompany the Promised Messiah wherever he went for dissemination of Islam and the true teachings of the Qur’an. We find him present in Ludhiana in July 1891 during the debate between Maulvi Muhammad Hussain Batalvi and the Promised Messiah; similarly in October 1891 during the Promised Messiah’s speech in Jamia Masjid Dehli, and during the debates by the Promised Messiah with Maulvi Nazeer Hussain Dehlvi, and the written debate with Maulvi Muhammad Bashir Bhopali. He was one amongst those seventy persons who attended the first Jalsa Salana (Annual Gathering) which was held in Qadian from 27 to 29 December, 1891, and thereafter he accompanied the Promised Messiah on his visit to Lahore in January 1892 and his visit to Sialkot in February 1892.

MORAL STATUS OF EARLY AHMADI MULLAHS

MUFTI SADIQ GIVES DESCRIPTION OF MOLVI ABDUL KARIM

Mufti Sadiq, In his book Zikr e Habib at page No.27 writes that Molvi Abdul Karim was an ardent and enthusiastic person. He was extremist in his way of stopping people from evil. One day he was sitting in Matab (Clinic of Molvi Nuruddin), he stopped Mian Alah Din aka Philosopher from something but Philosopher did not obey to him, rather challenged him. Then Molvi Abdul Karim and wrestler type friend caught Philosopher and gave him a severe beating. Poor Philosopher cried and made a loud noise went to hazrat sb. Hazrat sb (Mirza Qadiani) came out of house and admonished Molvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti and asked him to seek apology from philosopher. Hazrat sb said how dare you did so when a messenger of Allah is present among you.

Giving his physical appearance, Mufti Sadiq writes that Molvi Abdul Karim was a short heighten, fat man, had only one foot and one eye. (Lame and one eyed)He used to walk with the help of a stick. He had permanent small pox scares on his face. Always wear glasses on eyes.

Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti went totally blind by roughly 1902

Ahmadi biographers have written that Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti was slowly going blind. If you see his pictures from roughly 1900, he is wearing glasses, however, soon thereafter, all of his pictures show him to be wearing glasses, which are an indication that he had totally went blind by roughly 1902.

“””(A) …Maulavi ‘Abdul-Karim had spoken somewhat harshly to his wife. This caused the commandment that such harsh language should not be used. Normally a believer should be gentle and courteous towards everyone though on occasion a harsh expression might be
employed like a bitter medicine, but only in case of need and to the degree needed. Harshness should not become a habit.”””
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1903 era—Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti’s wife?

Not much is written about the wife of Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti, she makes one appearance in the literature of Ahmadiyya, this is in roughly the 1903 era. She competes with the wife of Noorudin, in terms of who does MGA love more? Noorudin or Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti.  Further, where are his children? He seems to either have had NO children or they disappeared.

Upon this, Hadrat Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim said that a few days earlier
a friend had narrated that the population of his village was 400. When
an outbreak of the plague occurred in his village all except 40 perished,
and even among them, only 9 remained completely healthy and the
rest were sick to some extent. His [paternal] uncle was also among the
9 who were healthy.
It occurred to him that his uncle’s heart may have softened since
death had rampaged the village. He, therefore, decided to go and preach
to his uncle that maybe a share of guidance was destined for him. Even
though people tried to stop him from going to this plague-stricken village,
he still went forth out of his passion for preaching the truth. He
explained to his uncle about the truthfulness of the Movement. The
uncle replied, ‘If this plague exists on account of Mirza’s opposition,
then I happily resign myself to dying from it, even if I contract the
plague.’
The ultimate consequence was that the uncle and his entire family
and children were destroyed and decimated, yet he remained defiantly
opposed, refusing to believe unto his very death

“””Compassion and Sympathy for His Loved Ones
Maulana Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim, may his Lord protect him, has again been experiencing frequent urination for the past two or three days. Today, His Holiness requested a sample of his urine for analysis, which was plentiful in volume. The words spoken to Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim about his condition by the Promised Messiah as testify to his exemplary kindness and compassion. I present a summary of these in my own words.”””

The Promised Messiah as said:
I was very surprised to see [the sample of ] your urine, and
began praying for you immediately. Insha’Allah [God willing],
I will continue to pray a great deal.1
As someone suffering from excessive urination myself, I
know how troublesome it can be. You feel your heart is sinking
and the calves start to hurt. You feel much distress and restlessness.
I have decided that I will remain engaged only in prayers
for a few days after completing this treatise2.
The medicine that I had prepared for you proved to be
beneficial, so please take it. I will send it. When it runs out,
more can be prepared. Drink plenty of milk, it is very beneficial
in this illness. And insha’Allah, I will pray earnestly [for
your recovery]. Seeing your urine, I was amazed at how you can
come to Prayers assiduously [despite your discomfort]. Even
from your voice, one cannot discern that you are suffering.
Hadrat Maulana Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim stated, ‘It is the prayer of
Your Holiness as that I am able to present myself with perseverance and
resolve, otherwise, at times, I am close to fainting.’
The Promised Messiah as again said that he would pray a lot for
Maulawi Sahib. Maulawi Sahib submitted that his only desire was good
health for the Promised Messiah as.

restored somehow when I will pray for you. It is stated in a hadith:3

Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti dies of plague, MGA refuses to visit him on his deathbed
Pages 446–447 http://www.aaiil.org/text/articles/revi … sh1905.pdf

He fell ill in August of 1905, and died on 11 October 1905, probably of the plague, as Mirza did not visit him on his deathbed despite his request. On December 27, 1905, his body was exhumed and re-buried in the Bahishti Maqbara with new funeral prayers.

Notice of his death appeared in the Review of Religions. Abdul Kaim’s death was apparently caused by a huge carbuncle that was on his back..which later turned into a disease of pleurodynia. People have wondered if pleurodynia had anything connection with the plague?______________________________________________________________________________________________Muhammad Ali died when Maulvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti died

The Promised Messiah, who had spent those sleepless nights in prayers for his recovery for over two months and had procured every kind of medicine and food required by the doctors for his treatment and recovery, submitted to the will of God and became composed and asked Maulvi Muhammad Ali and Dr. Yaqub Beg, who were weeping, to stop crying. Inna illahi wa inna ilaih rajeoon. The next morning the Promised Messiah led Maulvi Abdul Karim’s funeral prayer and he was temporarily buried in general a graveyard of Qadian.

Advice to the Jama‘at
Our Jama‘at should be such that it does not remain content with mere rhetoric but should strive to fulfil the true purpose of taking Bai‘at [the Pledge of Allegiance]. An internal change should be realized. You cannot please God simply by grasping some doctrinal issues. If there is no internal change, then there is no difference between you and others. You will be destroyed before the others if machination, deceit, indolence, and laziness are found within you. Everyone must bear their burden and fulfil their promise. Do not trust life.

Look! Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim passed away. Every Friday, we offer someone’s funeral [Prayer]. Do whatever you can do now. When the time of death comes, it cannot be postponed. A person who does good deeds in advance can hope to become purified. Strive to effect a change in your soul. Supplicate in your Salat. Join وَوَ الَّذِيْنَالَّذِيْنَ جَاهَدُوْاجَاهَدُوْا فِيْنَافِيْنَا1 [those who strive in Our path], by offering charity and by every other means.

Just as a sick person visits a doctor, takes medicine, takes a laxative, gets blood drawn, gets hot or cold compress treatment, and takes every kind of measure to get well; similarly, make every effort to remove your spiritual ailments. Not just with the tongue, but with all the methods of striving that God Almighty has mentioned—employ them all. Give charity. Go to the jungles and pray. If you need to travel, do that too.

Some people take money and go around giving it to children so that they may perhaps attain inner enlightenment in this way. When the inner self is locked shut, no benefit can be gained. Allah the Exalted loves the one who tries all sorts of strategies; so when a person employs all strategies, one or the other hits the target”””.

27 December 1905
The coffin of Hadrat Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim was reinterred in Bahishti Maqbarah [the Heavenly Graveyard] on the morning of 27 December. This is the first denizen of Paradise to be laid to rest in this cemetery. Before the burial, the Promised Messiah as led the Companions in the funeral prayer. This was done based on the fact that the elder wife of the deceased saw the deceased in a dream the previous night, in which he said that my funeral prayer should be offered. Hence, to fulfil this dream, the funeral prayer was offered once more. The Promised Messiah as stated, ‘The funeral is also a prayer. It is good to fulfil a dream…””

Days of Jalsa December 1905
In Loving Memory of the Late Hadrat Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim
Hadrat Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim was mentioned while outside visiting Bahishti Maqbarah [the Heavenly Graveyard]. The Promised Messiah as said:

He was absolutely absorbed in the love of this Movement. When he first came to me, he was a follower of [Sir] Syed Ahmad [Khan]. At times I would talk with him about such issues that were amongst Syed Ahmad’s erroneous beliefs, and sometimes the discussion would reach a point where it would take on the manner of a debate. However, after a short period of time, one day he openly declared that I should be a witness that, as of today, he has abandoned all these things.

After that, he became so absorbed in my love that if I said the stars came out during the day and the sun at night, he would never be one to disagree. He was in complete unity and harmony with me. He considered it kufr [disbelief] to hold an opinion contrary to mine regarding any topic. He held the utmost degree of love for me…..””

Prayer and Charity for the Deceased
On the morning of 11 January, when the Promised Messiah as went out for a walk accompanied with the Companions he went to the grave of the late Hadrat Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim, where he raised his hands and prayed. After this, a man asked a few questions that merit being included in this column.

Question—What should be recited while standing at the grave?

Answer—One should pray for the deceased that God Almighty forgives his faults and sins that he committed in this world and pray for the surviving family members of the deceased as well.

Question—Which verse should be recited in this prayer?

Answer—These are formalities. Pray for the deceased in your own language, which you know well and in which your emotion is cultivated.

Question—Can charity, almsgiving, and recitation of the Holy Quran benefit the deceased?

Answer—The sadaqah [charity] given on behalf of the deceased reaches the deceased, but it is not proven from the Holy Prophet sas and the Companions ra that the recitation of the Holy Quran on behalf of the deceased reaches the deceased. Instead, prayer should be made on behalf of the deceased. Giving charity and supplication on behalf of the deceased is proven by the practice of 124,000 Prophets, but the charity a person gives in his own life with his own hands is better because through it, a person sets a seal upon his faith”””.

A boy here was severely afflicted with the plague. The Promised Messiah as prayed for him. Allah the Exalted granted him health. He was mentioned. Maulawi Muhammad ‘Ali submitted: ‘I have always noticed that if a person begins to bleed due to the plague, they never survive. This is the only boy that I have seen survive in spite of such bleeding.’ The Promised Messiah as said:

This is the result of prayer alone, and his survival is just like the survival of ‘Abdul-Karim for whom a wire was received from Kasauli that he could not be cured as (the signs of) madness had appeared. Nevertheless, God Almighty accepted my prayer on his behalf, and he was restored to full health. No one has ever seen or heard of anyone surviving in this manner”””.

Consequence of Cruelty to One’s Wife
There was mention of an individual. The Promised Messiah as said: I have received many letters from him [stating] that he is often unwell and has become so weak that he cannot even do his work adequately, and due to this he is compelled to take a long leave of absence; but in reality the matter is that the consequence of cruelty is always terrible. He is very harsh to his first wife and this behaviour is displeasing to God. Many times, Maulawi Noor-ud-Deen and the late Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim advised him, but he refuses to understand. I have warned him indirectly many times, but he has not paid heed in the least, and its consequence will not be good. It is inevitable that one day he will regret his behaviour and understand my advice..””

“”The apostate Dr [‘Abdul-Hakim] has determined the reason for the death of the late Maulawi ‘Abdul-Karim and the late Babu Muhammad Afzal to be the opposition to his commentary. On this, Munshi Ahmad Din, Appeal Writer, of Gujranwala, mentioned a wonderful point that, ‘Dr Sahib himself has become an opponent of his own commentary”””.

Per the testimony of Mirza Aziz Ahmad, Maulvi Abdul Karim presented him to MGA for bait (see ROR of Oct-1942).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
1943

He is mentioned in the ROR of Jan-1943, in terms of MGA and the beating of children.

The ROR of July-1943 gives a testimony by Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) wherein he tells about a story with Maulvi Abdul Kareem leading prayers at Qadian. After the prayer, Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) was introduced to MGA via Maulvi Abdul Kareem as a naturi, a person who was following Sir Syed and etc. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad then asked Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) if he had read the books of Sir Syed Ahmad and Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) confirmed it. Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) said that he came from an educated family and thus had read the books of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. MGA then asked him if he had the books of MGA? Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) confirmed that he had read all of MGA’s urdu books. MGA then asked as to what books of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan appealed to Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) and he replied with “Khutbat-i-Ahmadiyya” (Which was written by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan while he was in London in 1870). Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) also mentioned “Tabyeenul Kalam” as a favorite book of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. MGA then asked Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) what difference was between MGA’s books and Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s books? Sh. Karam ilahee (from Patiala) responded with a metaphor. MGA then said that the difference can be seen in terms of the Miraj, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan called it a dream, whereas MGA called it a spiritual vision (Kashf).

He is mentioned in the ROR of Dec-1943 in terms of Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf. In 1901, Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf had told MGA that Maulvi Abdul Kareem had put forward the absurd claim that MGA=Muhammad (saw)(astagfarullah). MGA counter argues in Malfuzat that he had been saying this the early 1880’s and via the Barahin series (1-4 only) and Muslims like Maulvi Nazir Ahmad of Delhi had praised this book. MGA alleges that Munshi Abdul Haq and Babu Muhammad (aka ilahi Bakhsh) also witnessed this. MGA also mentioned Nawab Siddiq Hassan Khan.

In the ROR of Dec-1943, the famous book (by Babu Ilahi Bakhsh, the accountant) “Asai Moosa” (1899). This is a 455 pages book which contains his correspondence with Mirza, all of his Ilham particularly about the lies of Mirza, and the failed Ilham of Mirza Ghulam Qadiani. His name is written as Munshi ilahi Bakhsh (and in the ROR of Dec-1943 as Babu Muhammad). ilahi Bakhsh accused MGA and his family of being poor people (paupers) and those who sold out for a few coins. MGA tells ilahi Bakhsh to go and look at the Punjab Chiefs, however, Mirza Ghulam Murtaza lied to Lepel Griffin therein.

HIS AILMENT
In August 1905 he fell ill due to diabetes and excessive urination. On 12 August he developed an abscess on his back between two shoulders which converted into a large carbuncle causing him severe pain. Dr. Khalifa Rashiduddin, Dr. Mirza Yaqub Baig and Dr. Muhammad Hussain Surgeon Medical Hospital Lahore conducted surgery on his carbuncle which could not succeed and his condition further deteriorated. He got infection in his teeth and his gums start bleeding. Then he hit a wooden window door in his head resulting into profuse bleeding.

MGAQ SPENDS TOO MUCH MONEY ON HIS TREATMENT
MGA provided every medicine and food to him during his sickness. He spent too much money for his treatment. He liked cold water and drinks, so two mound’s of Ice were brought from Batala for him and equal quantity more was ordered before it is fully consumed. All kinds of fresh fruit like melons, grapes and pomegranate were made available to him. Three or four male chickens were slaughtered daily for preparing soup for him beside one Jug full of mutton soup was given to him to overcome weakness and for fast digestion as a light food. A request was made to MGA that Molvi sb may be given imported beef Juice made of Wythe Company England. So MGAQ arranged the said beef juice for Molvi Abdul Karim. In order to perform surgery on his carbuncle, chloroform, local anaesthesia, and most modern surgical equipments were brought to Qadian which were not even available at good hospitals at that time.

MGAQ AVOIDS PERSONAL CONTACT FOR FEAR OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASE
Although MGAQ took great care of Molvi Abdul Karim and spent lot of money for his cure, yet he did not come to see him fearing his disease might be contagious. Molvi Abdul Karim would remember him when he was in severe pain. So He would scream demanding his family to take him to Mirza Ghulam Qadiani. He often cry and scream saying to take him to Mirza sb I want to see him. One day in a state of semi consciousness, he said to his wife to go to Mirza sb and tell him that I have died plz come to me and show me your face from a distance. His wife went downstair and told Mirza sb of the request of Molvi Abdul Karim Finding MGAQ in hesitation, Nusrat Jehan interfered and said to Mirza, why don’t you go to him when he is in so much pain and wanted to see you. Mirza said you know I might fall ill if I see him in a condition like this. After much persuasion by Nusrat Jehan Mirza sb agreed to go to him. He put his turban in the head and got ready to ascend on to the stairs. Wife of Molvi Abdul Karim quickly went upstairs to tell Abdul Karim that Mirza is coming to see you. But once she told him of his arrival he admonished her as to why did you put him in botheration. She said you requested for it. He said he did not mean it, was just telling the condition of his heart. Now you go and ask him not to bother yourself because he knows the reason why he does not come to him. So she ran back and told Mirza sb of the new instructions of her husband. Hesitant MGAQ went back half way.

MIRZA GHULAM QADIANI REFUSED TO SEE THE FACE OF MOLVI ABDUL KARIM SIALKOTI AFTER DEATH

In 1904-5, Molvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti fell ill as he developed carbuncle on his back. During his sickness, he would demand to see Mirza sahib in his screams and cry. Mirza Ghulam Qadiani avoided to meet him although Sialkoti was staying at the upper story of his house. Mirza feared that Sialkoti has been afflicted by a contagious and plague like diseases and it might spread to and catch him as well. At page No 125 of his book Zikr e Habib Mufti Sadiq Qadiani writes that When Molvi Abdul Karim Sialkoti died, his body was brought to the ground and kept for funeral prayer. His face was uncovered so that people might see him for the last time. Hazrat Masih e Moud (Mirza) came to lead the funeral prayer. Huzur (MGAQ) said his face may be covered I can,t see him.

DEATH AND BURIAL OF MOLVI ABDUL KARIM
Mean time he suffered from the diarrhea and pleurisy and got 106 degree fever. This proved fatal for him and on 11 October 1905 he died at the age of 47 years. He was buried in Qadian. But his coffin was dug out again and was re-buried in Bahishti Maqbara on 26 December, 1905.

CONTRADICTORY PROPHESIES OF MGAQ ON MOLVI ABDUL KARIM,S ILLNESS
In the beginning MGAQ prophesied that Molvi Abdul Karim will recover and get well soon. He fell ill in August and died on 11 October. Upto his death MGAQ was receiving revelations like :-
ماکان لنفس ان تموت الا بازن اللہ ۔ ارید الاخیر۔ شاھت الوجوہ۔ ازا جاء نصراللہ۔
But then, when his condition worsened MGAQ threw many new prophesies about his death like :
47 years – انالللہ وانا الیہ راجعون
Wrapped into coffin.
Two rafters broken down. etc.
However, the meaning of these ilhams suggest that the dates of these so called ILHAM, have been manipulated. Some Qadianis say MGAQ erred in interpretation of his early ilham about Abdul karim.
