Intro
Per Ahmadiyya sources only, he was born in Bhera, Pakistan on January 11, 1872(which was in British India at that time), which is roughly 100 miles from modern day Rabwah, he died in Rabwah on January 13, 1957 at age 85. Muhammad Sadiq was a student (and his maternal nephew) of Noorudin in Jammu (roughly 1880–1890). Per Ahmadiyya sources, he was dropped off by his father (Mufti Inaytullah Qureshi Usmani) for religious training in the 1880’s, his father died before 1889, his mother, Faiz Bibi, joined Ahmadiyyat between 1896 and 1897, per Ahmadiyya sources only. Per the order of Noorudin, he visited Qadian in later 1890 and signed the Bait form, however, he might have also been present at Ludhiana for the first bait in 1889, since so many lies have been told about this entire event. He would go back and forth, from his job in Jammu to Qadian quite frequently. He was never a Mufti, this title was given to him by MGA and other Ahmadi’s, who also seem to have called his father a Mufti, which is also wrong. He was a private secretary of MGA from 1891 to 1905. From 1905 to 1914, he was the editor of the Al-Badr newspaper, until it was forcibly shut down by the government. By 1916, he had a wife and 4 kids at Qadian (see the details in the below).
From 1917 to 1920 he was a missionary out of the UK and during WW-1. He lied endlessly about getting white people to convert to Ahmadiyya and mostly women. The Aug-Sep-1919 edition of the ROR reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq presented a memoranda on Indian Reforms, in his memoranda, he lied and claimed there were 700,000 Ahmadi’s in the world. Which was basically the Ahmadiyya position on these new laws and etc. It also reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was supposed to be sent to West Africa, a man named Mr. Pedro payed for the voyage. The Oct-Nov-1919 edition of the ROR tells us he is in London and giving lectures. The Dec-1919 edition of the ROR tells the world that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq has been ordered by the Khalifa to go the USA. Also, in 1919, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq had secret sex with his house maid Ethel Bassett, then fled the country and never returned.
In Feb of 1920, when he arrived in the USA, the immigration authorities sent a letter of inquiry to Qadian and found out that the Mufti was married with 4 kids. In the 1920’s, they also began to call him as Dr., however, we have proved that he had posted fake degrees while he was in America, just in an attempt to fulfill a prophecy of MGA wherein it was stated Mufti Muhammad Sadiq would get degrees.
From March to June-1920 the Mufti was working out of New York. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq alleges that a woman named Mrs. S.W. Sobolewski (aka Fatima Mustafa) is the first ever woman to convert to Ahmadiyya in the USA (Moslem Sunrise, July-1921, see page 13), he claims that she converted during his time in New York.
Mufti Muhammad Sadiq arrived in NY (from Philadelphia) in early 1920 and began interacting with the American Mohammedan Society and the Al-Bayan, البيان [The Explanation] newspaper. He was desperately trying to become their Imam. It didn’t work out. In June of 1920, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq travelled from New York to Detroit as he targeted the Muslim Community therein. The Al-Bayan reported his visit in its edition of 26 June, 1920. On June 14, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq arrived in Detroit and was given a good reception, the Muslims of Detroit had no idea what #Qadianism was nor did they know that MGA claimed to be a prophet. By July-1920, he was back in NY.
By August-Sep 1920, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq arrived in Chicago and began working. The ROR of Oct-1920 reports that Muftree Muhammad Sadiq has converted 40 American’s thus far. It also reports that Sadiq moved from New York to Chicago recently. He seems to have lived and worked in Chicago from Aug-Sep 1920 until Feb 1921.
In May of 1921 (via Al Fazl, 19 May 1921 and the Detroit News), Mufti Sadiq has successfully converted a white woman to Ahmadiyya, her name is Ella May Garber (also known as Mrs EM Garber, or Siddiqatun Nisa Rahatullah. She is allegedly preparing to travel to India and become a female missionary for the Ahmadiyya Movement. This is part of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and other Ahmadi editors lied about white converts to Ahmadiyya from Europe and America. She is mentioned again in the Moslem Sunrise of Oct-1921, she is alleged to be giving lectures in NY.
In June of 1921, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq returned to Highland Park and led the Eid prayer at the new mosque. The sermon delivered by Hussain Karoub, the brother of Muhammad Karoub. The Eid celebration continued after the Eid prayer as a parade was arranged on Victor Ave. In July of 1921, he launched the Moslem Sunrise Newspaper from this new mosque at 74 Victor Ave, Highland Park, Michigan. He seems to have gotten funding from Muhammad Karoub. Karroub was a wealthy Real Estate mogul and seemed to have been collaborating with Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, this would prove to be disastrous. Karoub and his wife are mentioned on page 16 of the July-1921 edition of the Moslem Sunrise.
In the same month, he also visited Fort Wayne, Indiana and Bremen, Indiana upon the invitation of Mr and Mrs Michael Abraham. The Bremen Enquirer reported his visit on the front page of its 28 July 1921 issue, under the heading: “First Missionary of Moslems to US Visits in Bremen”.
From Aug-1921 to April 1922, he remained in Highland Park. Mufti Sadiq was soon run out of Detroit.
In May 1922 he travelled to Chicago and once again made it the mission’s centre. The first Ahmadiyya mission-house/temple in America was built in Chicago on 4448 Wabash Avenue. The July-1922 edition of the Moslem Sunrise states the same, permanent quarters of our [Ahmadiyya] Mission have now been established in Chicago where I have bought a large house – a part of which with necessary alterations has been fixed up into a Mosque and the rest decorated and furnished as the Mission House and the office of The Moslem Sunrise. This building owned by the Ahmadia Movement is situated on Wabash Ave. and 45th Street, Northwest Corner. We appreciate the pains taken by our dear Brother Muhammed Yaqub (Mr Andrew Jacob) – carpenter, in making the Mehrab and the Gumbad (Arch and Dome) of the Mosque.
In 1924, he returned to Qadian. His second wife was the famous dutch woman, Hidayt Budd (1929). It;s unknown if they had any children. He moved to Rabwah in 1948 and died about 10 years later.

1922_iss_4.pdf (muslimsunrise.com)
Per Ahmadiyya sources, in late 1900, when Mufti Muhammad Sadiq moved to Qadian, he moved in with his 2 children and wife. They all lived with MGA, in his inner circle, inside of MGA’s mansion. We are unclear on when they moved out or whatever happened to these kids. In 1920, when he arrived in the USA, the immigration authorities sent a letter of inquiry to Qadian and found out that the Mufti was married with 4 kids.
1889—got married to Imam Bibi (See also Moslem Sunrise of Oct-1922, page 134).
1895—Son, Muhammad Manzur Umar (born in roughly 1895)(See also Moslem Sunrise of Oct-1922, page 134).

His mistress in the UK in 1919-1920
The Ipswich Star newspaper is reporting how a famous Qadiani-Ahmadi missionary Mufti Muhammad Sadiq had sexual relations with his maid in 1920. Her name was Ethel Bassett, her son, Frederick Arthur Bassett was born in London on May 20, 1920. However, just 2 months before the kid was born, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq departed from Liverpool on 26 January 1920 and reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 15 February. We think the 2nd Khalifa ordered Mufti Muhammad Sadiq to leave the UK and it was related to this issue of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq impregnating Ethel Basset. On 8 September 1923, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq travelled by ship from America to Europe, staying a few weeks in France. He landed in British India on September 18, 1923, and arrived in Qadian on December 4, 1923 in the afternoon. He didn’t stop in London, he totally avoided the UK for the remainder of his life, in fact, even in 1924, when the 2nd Khalifa travelled to the UK, Sadiq stayed in India.

Ethel Basset
Who is Ethel Bassett? – ahmadiyyafactcheckblog
Ethel Maud Basset (also spelled as Miss E. Maud Besset, see ROR of May-June-Juny-1919, signed off as May-28-1919) seems to be the house maid of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq in 1919. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was living at Ahmadiyya Hall, 4 Star Street, W.2., Edgware Rd, London. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq impregnated Ethel Basset in the summer of 1919 (most like August), her age is unknown, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was roughly 50 years old. Ahmadiyya sources allege that she had converted to Qadianism (see Al Fazl Qadian, on 10 June 1919 and The Review of Religions, in its issue of May, June, July 1919)(see the full quotes in the below).
In the early summer of 1919, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was suffering from granular eyelids. It seems that Miss E. Maud Besset began working closely with the Mufti and thus, she became pregnant (See The Review of Religions, May, June, July 1919, p. 229).
Ethel Basset was roughly 5 months pregnant in Jan. of 1920 when Mufti Muhammad Sadiq left the UK. Their son Frederick Arthur Bassett was born in London on May 20, 1920. When he was born he was also baptized and he didn’t take his fathers name, thus proving that Ethel was never a Muslim, at best, Ahmadiyya sources will allege that she was an ex-ahmadi. In reality, she was most likely used for sex by Mufti Muhammad Sadiq who hid this affair by alleging that Basset was a convert to Qadianism. In fact, in 1923-1924, in the USA, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was accused of being part of a dangerous mission wherein American/Indian girls were abducted.

WIFE #3
Miss Budd
Hidayt Budd
Mrs. Hidayt Sadiq
Mrs. Hidayt Budd Sadiq of Amsterdam (Holland)
Mufti Muhammad Sadiq brought a white lady named Hidayt Budd to Qadian from Sri Lanka, he married her a few months later in 1929. He gave a speech at the 1929 Jalsa at Qadian. He picked her up and took her from Colombo to Qadian (see ror of Sep-1929).
Her name appears in the ROR of June and Sep-1925 as simply Miss Budd from Holland, in the June edition they claim that she is a convert to Ahmadiyya and was given the Muslim name Hidayt. By Nov-1925, her essay’s begin to appear and more so in the March-1926, April, June and August 1926. In 1929, it seems that she showed up at Colombo, Sri Lanka and was brought to Qadian by Mufti Muhammad Sadiq via a special mission. Her name was changed to Hidayt Budd. She was most likely a prostitute that was bought and shared with the Khalifa at Qadian. Hafiz Qudratullah (1917-1994) was a missionary of the Ahmadiyya Movement and he explains how he saw her at Qadian in his youth.

Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiq (RA) Autobiography, page 262.
Finally, at the age of 68, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq married a woman from Malabar, Mrs. Ruqiya Bano Sahiba. They had two children. Ms. Razia Sadiq Sahiba who was seventeen years old at the time of the death of her father Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiq Sahib and a son Mufti Ahmad Sadiq Sahib who was only six and a half years old. Razia Momin Sahiba had inherited an abundant share of the attributes of her respected father. She was an ideal example of a woman whose focus in life was seeking divine pleasure. She was a simple, selfless woman. The Karachi Lajna will never forget her services. Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiq (RA) Autobiography, page 262.

Faiz Bibi, joined Ahmadiyyat between 1896 and 1897. After her bai’at (initiation) when she was returning to Bhera from Qadian, MGA walked up to the tonga (cart) stand to bid farewell to Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and his respected mother. MGA had ordered some food for their journey but it was brought unpacked. MGA tore-up a yard of cloth from his turban and gave them the food wrapped in it.

Was Noorudin really his maternal uncle?
A Glimpse Into the Life of the Founder of the Muslim Sunrise, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq
By Age 15, Muhammad Sadiq’s father decided it was time for him to immerse himself in religious studies further, sending him to Jammu and Kashmir to learn from his maternal uncle, Nooruddin.

Did Mufti Muhammad Sadiq know Hebrew???
Mufti Muhammad Sadiq: Founder of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in the United States of America
The Ahmadiyya Movement alleges that Mufti Sadiq studying arabic, english and hebrew while in Jammu.
Allegedly, in 1895-1902, Mufti Sadiq researched the Hebrew Bible to identify the prophecies related to the advent of the Holy Prophet of Islam and the Promised Messiah and some of those are recorded in Hebrew on pages 111 and 138 of Tohfa-i-Golarhviyya (A Gift for Golarhviyya). He also used to copy-write the text of Hebrew extracts (as included in His Holiness’ booklet Ar’baeen IV, Page 8, related to the prophecy of false Prophets).
The ROR of Nov-1916 (and the ROR of June-1916) reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is a scholar in Hebrew and Kaldani.
Allegedly, at the time when the book Minanur-Rahman (1895)(Bounties of the Gracious God) was being composed by MGA, Dr. Sadiq was directed to learn Hebrew. He learnt enough Hebrew from a Jewish scholar at Lahore to prepare a list of words for Hadhur to provide proof that Hebrew also had its origin in the Arabic language. (this book was published in 1922).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1880’s
His father sends him to Jammu to learn Islam from Noorudin. At age 8-10 years old, Noorudin would place him into his legs (on his lap), and would tell him about MGA. In Zikr-e-Habib, he describes MGA as a crazy man, however innocent.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________Late 1890
He travels to Qadian and meets MGA with a letter from Noorudin, vouching for him. He was working at Jammu Highschool, Noorudin helped him get this job. He seems to have read Fath e Islam in this era, which again proves that this book was written and published in early 1890, contrary to Ahmadiyya sources. Maulvi Abdul Kareem was also working in Jammu in those days and he also vouched for Sadiq.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1891 in Ludhiana
While MGA had his famous debates going on, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was working as a spy on MGA’s behalf.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1895
He seems to have been in Qadian during the double eclipse during Ramadhan. He also moved to Lahore wherein he got a job in the Office of Accountant General as a clerk, where he worked till 1901. Nevertheless, he came to Qadian every Sunday to help with editing work.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1900-1901
He moves to Qadian, with his wife and 2 kids and begins to live exclusively with MGA, in MGA’s house. He was also involved in writing vs. Pir Mehr Ali Shah in this era. His room was above MGA’s, and thus he heard all the conversations in the mansion.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1902
He writes to Dowie and Piggot on behalf of MGA and issues death prophecies.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1903-1904
He traveled with MGA to his court cases. This was the famous case of Karam Din. It seems that MGA was denied a chair in this court case and thus, Ahmadiyya sources tell us that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq would sit on the ground and MGA would hover above him, in some weird type of way. He was also a teacher at the Talim ul Islam Middle and High School in this era. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was ill in these days and was given drugs by Noorudin and MGA which has high levels of opium in them.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1905
After the Talim ul Islam School was shut down, MGA made Sadiq as the editor of the Al-Badr. Since the old owner (Munshi Muhammad Afzal) and editor of the Badr had died (March 21st, 1905). This was his only job. Mufti Sadiq continued as Editor of Al-Badr till 1914.
The ROR of Feb-1943 reports that Maulvi Abdul Kareem was bitten by a mad dog (its unclear when in 1905 that this happened). His name is written as Abdul Kareem of Yadgeer. He had hydrophobia (rabies) and was suffering. MGA called Maulvi Sher Ali or Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and they gave Abdul Kareem medicine by MGA which was “Roghan-i-Badam”. Abdul Kareem was forced to move out of the house of MGA and was living on the second storey of the house of Syed Muhammad Ali Shah. Sayyid Zayn al ‘Abidin Waliullah Shah said he was afraid that Abdul Kareem might attack them and start biting them. Telegrams were sent out all over British-India, all the doctors said that nothing could be done for Abdul Kareem, he would die soon.

1906
On page 129 of his book Zikre Habib
He writes that once his 9 year old son saw a dream that a calamity is about to hit Jamaat Ahmadiyya people. So they need to sacrifice something to deter this. Hazrat Masih e Maoud (Mirza) ordered to slaughter 14 bucks (he-goats) to deter this calamity. He instructed his mureeds to sacrifice as per their financial position. An Ishtihar was published in Akhbar Al-badr by Mufti Sadiq, in this regard as under:
“The minor son of this humble writer saw a dream that a high intensity earth quake has to hit us. This earth quake appeared in the shape of a dog and said your jamaat should sacrifice. Then they will be spared. So hazrat e Aqdas (MGAQ) said member of our Jamaat should sacrifice and seek repentance from Allah.”

Ahmadiyya sources tell us that the offices of the Al-Badr newspaper were moved to Lahore, along with Noorudin and Maulvi Ahsan Amrohi. However, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is not mentioned in MGA’s death narrative.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________May 28, 1908
Ahmadiyya sources tell us that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was in Qadian and read out the announcement of Noorudin’s unanimous election as Khalifa (see Quotes from the Al-Badr, Issue of June 8, 1908, see also “Hakeem Noorudin” by Syed Hasanat Ahmad, pages 112-113).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1910
The ROR of Jan-1910 has an essay him entitled, “The Christian Doctrine of Atonement” (Part-1).
The ROR of Feb-1910 has an essay him entitled, “The Christian Doctrine of Atonement” (Part-2).
The ROR of April-1910 has an essay him entitled, “The Christian Doctrine of Atonement” (Part-3).
The ROR of May-1910 has an essay him entitled, “The Christian Doctrine of Atonement” (Part-4).
The ROR of July-1910 has an essay him entitled, “The Christian Doctrine of Atonement” (Part-5).
The ROR of Sep-1910 has an essay him entitled, “The Christian Doctrine of Atonement” (Part-6).
He was sent on a preaching tour of British-India and admitted that he didn’t openly teach that MGA was a prophet (Oct-1910).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1912
In the Al-Badr, he wrote an essay entitled: What was the occupation of the Promised Messiah?
He was a speaker at the 1912 Jalsa at Qadian (see ROR of Jan-1913).
______________________________________________________________________________________________1913-1914
The Al-Badr newspaper is shut down by force by the British Government. Some governmental archives show how the Al-Badr and Nur Afshan newspapers were beefing with each other and causing lots of strife, the Ahl-e-Hadis newspaper was also involved. It seems that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq became a Christian in this era. See here—Religious Controversy between Nur Afshan and Ahmadiyya 3

1914–March
The ROR of July-1914 Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is reported as working out of Calcutta, and serving Orissa, Bengal and Behar (we are unsure when he went). The ROR of July-1914 presents Mr. A. Fraser Hill as an Ahmadi and even posted his letter to Mufti Muhammad Sadiq at Qadian. He seems to be living at the Seaview Hotel, Burnie, Tasmania, Australia. He has been given the name of Iskander bin Fairuz. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq asserted that Wragge was an Ahmadi (which was a lie).
______________________________________________________________________________________________
1915
He seems to have been the editor of the Sadiq, which was a new and short lived newspaper (See Walter).
The ROR Of April-1915 alleges that a man (Mr. A. Fraser Hill) from Burnie, Tasmani, Australia has converted to Ahmadiyya, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and Mr. Abdur Rahim are working in Qadian and corresponding with him.
The ROR of June-1915 alleges that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, Hafiz Roshan Ali and a local Ahmadi named Basharat Ahmad spent 6 weeks at Alladin Buildings, Oxford Street, Secunderabad, and finally convinced Seth Abdullah Allahdin to join the Qadian branch of Ahmadi’s, he was formerly an Aga Khan shia.
The ROR of February-1916 reports that he was at the 1915-Jalsa at Qadian and even gave some speeches.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
1916
The ROR of June-1916 alleges that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was elected as a non-resident member of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was living in Qadian at the time. They referred to him as a scholar of Hebrew and biblical literature, they allege that he has done research on the history of Christianity in India. At the end of a letter he is referred to as a lawyer (Esq.) and a M.R.A.S. (we have no idea what degree this is)(the letter is dated May 11th, 1916). The ROR of June-1916 alleges that he was in Adyar, Madras, British-India and was able to convert someone to Ahmadiyya.
The ROR of July-1916 reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq visited Madras, and also visited the alleged Tomb of Saint Thomas. He then argued that this was in-fact a 1900 year old tomb, just like the Yuz Asaf tomb.
The ROR of Nov-1916 reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is a scholar in Hebrew and Kaldani. It also reports that he has an M.R.A.S degree and will be sent to London soon.
In the ROR of Dec-1916, he is mentioned by Abul Hashem Khan as someone who will be available to answer any questions by Christians in London and etc. It is written how Sadiq is an expert in Hebrew.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1917
Mufti Sadiq left for England on March 10, 1917 as a missionary. He remained involved in the propagation of Islam during his voyage. He reached London on April 17, 1917, and joined Qazi Muhammad Abdullah who was already active in spreading the business of Ahmadiyya. Mufti Sadiq spent about two and a half years in England and published many tracts during his stay. Upon arrival, 9 converts to Ahmadiyya are also claimed, of which one is a Lieutenant in the British Army.
The ROR of June-1917 reports that the Ahmadiyya Movement has secured a location for its propaganda, it is at No. 4, Star Street, Edgware Road, London, W.2.. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq led the Eid prayer. This is very close to Hyde Park. Sayyal was mentioned as the pioneer Ahmadiyya missionary. It also reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq has just arrived in the UK and has converted 6 people to Ahmadiyya, of which 2 of their names are Mr. Sparrow and Mr. Bird, this is in reference to MGA’s revelation that people in the UK will accept Ahmadiyya like birds [Izala-e-Auham, pp. 515–516, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 3, p. 377].
The ROR of Oct-Nov-1917 reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and Qazi Abdullah have converted 50+ people to Ahmadiyya in the UK. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is headed south to Southsea, Oxford and Portsmouth. Interestingly, he is listed as having 2 degrees, M.R.A.S and M.S.P, I have no idea that stands for.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
1918
The Jan-1918 edition of the ROR reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq has converted some ladies to Ahmadiyya. He seems to be living in southern area of the UK, the Isle of Wight. The correspondence between Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and Mary Amelie Hunt is also posted.
The Feb-1918 edition of the ROR reports that he is working out of the Isle of Wight and gave a lecture at the Ventor Town Hall.
In the ROR of May-1918, Sadiq writes Jihad is not allowed against the British Government, as he comments on the ruins of Italy at the end of WW-1. Another of his articles is also reproduced, it was published in “Isle of Wight Advertiser”, he says the same.
The Aug-Sep-1918 edition of the ROR reports that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq has converted a white man named Mr. Anderson in 1917. Sadiq claims to have converted 6 people to Ahmadiyya, of which 3 are white ladies.
The ROR of Nov-Dec-1918 reports that on July 4th, 1918, Muftree Muhammad Sadiq was present at the same place where the ambassador of Japan had also gathered.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
1919
The Jan-Feb-1919 edition of the ROR reports that he is calling himself as “El-Mufti”. He seems to be living at Haddon Hall, Hinten Road, Bornemouth, England and dated as Feb-26, 1919. He also claims to have had a British woman named Miss Cordon has converted to Ahmadiyya. The ROR also claims that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq has been given degrees with F.C. Chrom, BPhil and A.S.P. by the International College of Chromatics and Societe International de Philogie Science of Beaux Arts, London Ahmadiyya sources claim that this was also posted in the Daily Echo.
The Mar-Apr-1919 edition of the ROR republishes many letters of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq. In one of these letters, he lies and claims to have been given 2 degrees, the “Bachelor of Philology” and “Fellow of the College of Chrematics”. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is writing from Bornemouth. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq reports that 3 white ladies have accepted Qadianism.
The ROR of May-Jun-July-1919 republishes many letters of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq from his address in London as 4 Star Street, W.2. and dates as April 10th, 1919. It is also reported that the Ahmadiyya Movement supports the British Government vs. Ghandi and the non-cooperation movement in British-India. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq signs off as “El-Mufti”, he also alleges that 6 British women have joined Ahmadiyya. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq also claims to have given a lecture in the month of May-1919, he mentions the lectures by Qazi Abdullah, these seem to be at the Ahmadiyya Hall, 4 Star Street, W.2., Edgware Rd, London, UK. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq then gives the names of 5 additional converts, of which 4 are women. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was the political delegate of the Ahmadiyya Movement. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was suffering from Granular eyelids. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq reports that a Nigerian man named Mr. Abdul Rahim Alabi Smith helped him in reading and writing, he would end up in Qadian soon thereafter. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq delivered lectures in June-1919 also, at the same Ahmadiyya Hall. He even lied and claimed that the Ahmadiyya Movement was 600,000-700,000 strong.
The essay or announcement is written by Rahim Baksh aka Dard, who is working as the 2nd Khalifa’s secretary on 11-25-1919. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq wrote a letter to Percy Heward, who seems to be a Christian preacher in the UK area, this was published in the Jan-Feb-1920 edition of the ROR. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq acted as a political delegate of the Ahmadiyya Movement to the Indian Reform Scheme.

Thus, he departed from Liverpool on 26 January 1920 and reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 15 February. Upon his arrival, he was refused entry into the United States and was detained for nearly seven weeks at the Gloucester City immigration station in New Jersey. Eventually, he was allowed to enter the country and start his missionary work.

“Mahomet Missioner Comes to Convert – Antithesis of Billy Sunday to ‘Evangelize’ America
“Boy, page Billy Sunday. Tell him there’s a competitor of his’n in the hoosegow. His name is Mufti Mohammed Sadiq, American missionary of the Prophet Mohammed, and he aims to convert Americans…
“‘When I am permitted to land,’ said Sadiq today, ‘I am going to New York to establish a center there and … to start the Ahmadi movement.’ Ahmadism, Sadiq explained, is an advanced form of Mohammedanism.” (Pittsburgh Daily Post, Sunday, 22 February 1920, p. 9)
Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was in the news from the very day he arrived in Philadelphia. Apart from local Philadelphian newspapers such as The Philadelphia Record, Public Record, North American, Evening Bulletin and Public Ledger etc., other newspapers also reported his arrival.
The April-May-1920 edition of the ROR tells us that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is detained in prison in the USA, Maulvi Sher Ali calls it intolerance. Mufti Sadiq had sailed from England on January 26, 1920, and reached Philadelphia in the second week of February (2-15-1920, see ROR of July-1920). The immigration department blocked his entry into the U.S.A. on the grounds that he was not allowed to preach the message of God (See also the ROR of April-May-1920). In 1920, when he arrived in the USA, the immigration authorities sent a letter of inquiry to Qadian and found out that the Mufti was married with 4 kids. He was released from jail.
Sadiq set up his first headquarters in April 1920 at 1897 Madison Avenue in New York City. His address was also written as: “Mufti Mohammad Sadiq Ahmadi Missioner 245 W 72 Street, New York City (USA)”. The Ahmadiyya community’s pioneer newspaper Al Hakam mentions two of his postal addresses in 1920 as: 245 West 72 Street, NY and 1897 Madison Ave NY (Al Hakam, 7 July 1920, p. 11).
“Being stationed in New York, he had the opportunity to visit different cities to propagate the message of Islam. Among his journeys was a visit to Detroit, Michigan where he attended a meeting of Arab immigrant Muslims. An Arabic newspaper of New York, Al-Bayan, reported his visit in its edition of June 26, 1920 as follows:
‘[Translation] The Islamic Community in Detroit, Michigan has held a general body meeting on June 14 for the occasion of having Mr Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, one of the best men of India. He has come all the way from New York especially just to visit the Islamic Community here in this city.
‘Mr Mufti begun this meeting with the following words “In the name of Allah, and blessings be sent upon the Holy Arab Prophet”. Then he delivered his address in both English and Arabic, he expressed how the Muslims of India are highly determined and well dedicated to uplift the pride of Islam again, and how supportive they are towards their brothers in the East and the West. His address left a noble impact in the hearts of attendees.’” (Al Bayan, 26 June 1920, p. 3, 26 Court St, Brooklyn, NY).
Soon after, he took up residence in New York City. The Ahmadiyya community’s pioneer newspaper Al Hakam mentions two of his postal addresses in 1920 and they are: 245 West 72 Street, NY and 1897 Madison Ave NY (Al Hakam, 7 July 1920, p. 11).
Missionary work was carried out through articles in newspapers and correspondence with different dignitaries and other individuals. For example, Fort Scott Daily Tribune and Fort Scott Daily Monitor in its edition of 29 July 1920, page 8, under the heading of “Costly Movement on to Convert Americans to Muhammadism” reports:
“The Tribune today received propaganda from an Indian Buddihist or Mohammedan who has come to the United States to convert the country. Evidently the literature has gone to every newspaper in the United States and more is to follow in a comprehensive and costly effort to present the claims of Ahmad, claimed to be the Messiah of all religions who has come to save the people…
Meanwhile, in the UK, Fateh Muhammad Sial and his team gave a list of 57 converts to Ahmadiyya in the same July-1920 edition of the ROR. It also claims that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq converted 300 people to Ahmadiyya during his short stay in the UK.
In June of 1920, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq travelled from New York to Detroit. By July, he was back in NY, the July-1920 edition talks about how a Hindu from India converted to Ahmadiyya through Muftree Muhammad Sadiq and took his name. Mufti Sadiq reported that 31+ people had already converted to Ahmadiyya in New York (a total lie). Mufti Sadiq even claims to have converted 6 people to Ahmadiyya, of which 5 were chinese.
The ROR of July-1920 tells the world that Mufti Muhammad Sadiq spoke to the press about Ahmadiyya in the world and reported that there were 600,000 Ahmadi’s when MGA died in 1908. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq was inflating the numbers of Ahmadi’s to the press in the USA. Further, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and other Ahmadi editors lied about white converts to Ahmadiyya from Europe and America. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq also reported that he had converted 29 people to Ahmadiyya on his ship ride from the UK to the USA.
The ROR of Aug-Sep-1920 has an essay about Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, entitled, “An Anecdote of the Mufti”. The July-1920 edition talks about how a Hindu from India converted to Ahmadiyya through Muftree Muhammad Sadiq and took his name. Mufti Sadiq reported that 31+ people had already converted to Ahmadiyya in New York (a total lie). Mufti Sadiq even claims to have converted 6 people to Ahmadiyya, of which 5 were chinese.
In his letter dated 7 August 1920, he expressed his intentions to move to Chicago, considering it more suitable as the centre of the Ahmadiyya mission (Al Fazl, 23 September 1920, p. 1). And in the very next letter, he wrote that he had reached Chicago.
The ROR of Oct-1920 reports that Muftree Muhammad Sadiq has converted 40 American’s thus far. It also reports that Sadiq moved from New York to Chicago recently. The ROR also mentions that the Ahmadiyya Movement is working on an Arabic newspaper (most likely for the arab muslims living in Dearborn, MI.). They claim to be working with an Arab on this endeavor, Mr. Mohini, the newspaper is called the “Alserat”.
In Nov-Dec of 1920
Mufti Muhammad Sadiq seems to be in Chicago by Aug-Sep-1920. He was giving weekly lectures at No. 4334, Ellis Avenue, Chicago (See Al Fazl, 17 January 1921). It seems that Siddiqatun Nisa (aka Mrs. Garber) was already working as a secretary for Mufti Muhammad Sadiq. She even read a poem and a short essay in praise of Islam and Ahmaddiyyat. This essay has been sent to Qadian for the magazine, The Review of Religions (English).

The ROR of Jan-1921 tells us that he is in America and has converted a few white people to Ahmadiyya, he gives his address as 4334 Ellis Avenue, Chicago, Ill (U.S.A.). The ROR of March-1921 tells us that Muftree Muhammad Sadiq was given the honorary Doctorate of Literature from Lincoln Jefferson University out of Chicago, illinois. In the Feb-1921 edition of the ROR, a few converts are mentioned as well as his work in America thus far. Being invited to Grand Rapids, Michigan, he delivered a series of lectures there in early October 1921.
In February 1921, he was invited again to Detroit for lectures, so he arrived there on 5 February 1921. With the characteristic hospitality of Arab Muslims, he was offered a friendly and generous reception and accommodation. He stayed for more than a month in Detroit and its suburb Highland Park with these Arab Muslim friends and delivered a series of lectures on Islam. Per the Moslem Sunrise of July-1921, back in Feb-1921, the Mufti was in Detroit and wrote an essay in the Highland Park Times of Feb 25-1921 wherein he responds to Christians and gives his address as 624 Stinson Place, Detroit, MI.
In February, 1921, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq delivered a lecture on Islam at the auto workers hall in Detroit, Michigan (seen here). https://twitter.com/TrueIslamUSA/status/1213149869776478208
Detroit Free Press (Detroit, Michigan) 13 February 1921
By March 1921, he was back in Chicago, he had met with the Muslims in Highland park and promised to return when the mosque opened. On the way to Chicago, he was given a warm welcome by the Syrian community of Michigan City, Indiana. A banquet was also held in his honour where he delivered a lecture (Al-Bayan, 29 March, 1921, p. 3). The whole programme was announced earlier in The Michigan City News on 8 March, 1921.
In April of 1921, according to the Sioux City Journal (Sioux City, Iowa) he was there in early April 1921 and delivered a lecture on the subject of “Oriental Religions” followed by questions. (Sioux City Journal, 14 April 1921, p. 10)
In May of 1921 (via Al Fazl, 19 May 1921 and the Detroit News), Mufti Sadiq has successfully converted a white woman to Ahmadiyya, her name is Ella May Garber (also known as Mrs. EM Garber, or Siddiqatun Nisa Rahatullah. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and Ella May Garber are mentioned in the ROR of May-1921 (see pages 198-199), her name is spelled as Mrs. E.M. Garba.
He seems to have led an Eid prayer on June 9th, 1921 with 2 Syrian Muslim Imams, Hussein Karoub and Kalil Bazzy (see pages 49-50).
In July of 1921, he launched the “Moslem Sunrise” with funding from Muhammad Karoub. Mufti Sadiq even lived at the famous Karoub Buildings at 72 and 74 Victor Ave (Karoub House)(See Moslem Sunrise of July-1921). Mufti Muhammad Sadiq alleges that a woman named Mrs. S.W. Sobolewski is the first ever woman to convert to Ahmadiyya in the USA (see page 13). In the July edition of the Moslem Sunrise-1921 the Mufti says he met a woman, who said they she saw the Mufti in her dreams (see page 17).
In July 1921, he visited Toledo, Ohio. A local daily newspaper, The Toledo News Bee reported his visit and interview in its edition of 12 July 1921 under the heading “Plan a Mosque for Toledo”. He launches the Muslim Sunrise from Detroit, a new newspaper which would be the mouthpiece of Ahmadiyya in America. He lies and claims that there are 700,000 Ahmadi’s in the world. He also thanks Mr. Muhammad Karroub and his wife for hosting him in Detroit.

In the same month, he also visited Fort Wayne, Indiana and Bremen, Indiana upon the invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Abraham. The Bremen Enquirer reported his visit on the front page of its 28 July 1921 issue, under the heading: “First Missionary of Moslems to US Visits in Bremen”.

In February 1922, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq fell seriously ill, so much so that he even wrote his will (Al Fazl, 27 March 1922). By Allah’s grace, he recovered, but still suffered from an eye condition, for which he travelled to Niles, Michigan to be treated by the internationally known eye doctor Dr. Frederick N Bonine (1863-1941). He was advised to see the doctor twice a week and during his free time during the rest of the week, he visited nearby cities and towns to convey the message of Islam. He paid a visit to the Michigan cities of Benton Harbor and Dowagiac, along with South Bend, Indiana. There, he delivered many lectures, distributed literature and gave interviews on Islam. (Al Fazl, 8 and 22 June 1922).
In Stanley, he delivered a lecture in Picture Hall. In all likelihood, this journey was undertaken at the invitation of some Muslim brethren residing near Ross. In his lecture, he thanked brothers Hessen Husain Jaha, Farhat, Omar and others. On his way back, he spent some days conveying the message of Islam in both Crookston and St Paul, Minnesota. (The Moslem Sunrise, Issue I, 1923, p. 166, 167).
An organisation named Exchange Club in Grand Haven, Michigan invited him to deliver a lecture on Islam at a banquet attended by a large gathering of ladies and gentlemen. Accepting the invitation, he travelled to Grand Haven in November 1922.

In The Moslem Sunrise, issue II, 1923, page 190, he mentions his tour of New York, Buffalo and Pittsburgh. The Buffalo Times under the heading “Islam Missioner Visits Buffalo” reported:
“Muhammadans of this city are rejoicing for Dr. Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, first and only missionary of Islam to come to America, is here this week. Although he has been in America for three years, this is the doctor’s first visit to Buffalo …” (The Buffalo Times, 13 February 1923, page 15).
Mufti Muhammad Sadiq alleges that more than 600 people following Ahmadiyya sheikhs in Pittsburgh and Cleveland alone. Sheikh Ahmad Din was the first ever African-American to become an Ahmadi missionary (Sheikh)(however, without going to jamia). There were many others who were grandfathered in and made Sheikh‘s by Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, they are Ashiq Ahmad, Wali Akram, Nasir Ahmad and Saeed Akmal of Pittsburgh, Ahmad Omar of Braddock, Abdullah Malik of Columbus, Ahmad Rasool of Dayton, and Shareef Ali of Cincinnati. Rev. BD Sutton, who became the enthusiastic Ahmadiyya preacher Sheikh Abdus Salam, had been one of at least 40 pan-Africanist Garveyites that joined the movement following Sadiq’s five lectures to the Universal Negro Improvement Association in Detroit.
Maulvi Muhammad Din – who reached Chicago on 29 March 1923 – was to replace him in America (Al Fazl, 14 May 1923). He spent nearly three months with the new missionary and handed him charge of the mission. While awaiting the travel expenses from Qadian, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq visited yet more cities. As he had not yet visited the western part of America, he intended to depart from the west coast for India via Japan. That would also enable him to convey the message of Islam in western America, but the delay of travel expenses from Qadian made him give up this idea and he ended up visiting neighbouring areas instead.
In early July 1923, he was in Ashland, Kentucky and Huntington, West Virginia. Local newspapers Ashland Daily Independent and The Sunday Advertiser Huntington published his interviews (The Moslem Sunrise, July 1923, issue 4, p. 275). Travelling further, he reached Williamson, West Virginia and met some Muslims working as coal miners (Al Fazl, 4 September 1923). Logan, West Virginia was his next stop where he was invited by some locals.
As he was to depart from the Port of Boston, he travelled to Boston, making a short stay in Springfield, Massachusetts. He made good use of his time before departure by delivering eminently successful lectures in Peabody, a city in the suburban area of the North Shore in Massachusetts.
On 8 September 1923, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq travelled by ship from America to Europe, staying a few weeks in France. He landed in British India on September 18, 1923, and arrived in Darul Aman on December 4, 1923 in the afternoon.
In his report in Al Fazl, dated 9 October 1923, he mentioned his stay and preaching activities in Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York.

When the Khalifa left for the his tour of the UK, he left Mirza Bashir Ahmad and Mufti Muhammad Sadiq as in-charge. He went to Bombay to receive the Khalifa in Bombay on 11-18-1924.
“Mufti Muhammad Sadiq sahib is also a very loyal devotee who has rendered innumerable services to Ahmadiyyat. He was very dear to the Promised Messiah and was considered among the elect servants of Allah. God Almighty also blessed him with the opportunity to propagate Islam during this period.” (Al-Fazl, July 24, 1924)

Different departments were joined together with Sadr Anjuman Ahmadiyya (central executive body of the Community) in 1926 and Mufti Sadiq served as Head of Foreign Affairs, and later as Head of General Affairs, sometimes supervising both divisions. He also continued to pursue writing and public speaking. He writes and publishes the controversial book, “Zikr-e-Habeeb”, wherein many details of MGA’s life are accidentally revealed. In this book, he also helped to change MGA’s year of birth from 1839 to 1835.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1927
He was sent to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1927. Mufti Sadiq returned to Qadian on November 6, 1927, after completing his mission in Ceylon. He then visited several cities in India (including Kinanoor Cant., Paingadi, Calicut, Bengalore, Calcutta, Brahman Barhya, Dacca, Rangpur) at the direction of Khalifatul Masih II for Tabligh purposes. He married Hidayt Budd from Holland, it is unknown how many children they had. It also unclear as to how she got to Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, he picked her up and travelled with her to Qadian and married her soon thereafter.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________1928
He visited Karachi and Calcutta. He traveled to Sri Lanka once again to introduce the teachings of Qadianat.

Back in the early 1890’s, while seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree, he had partially qualified, with one examination remaining. He asked the permission of MGA to travel to Lahore to sit the examination. MGA replied, “You have already resigned from state service, why should you seek further qualifications? You do not need to attempt for this examination, degrees will themselves come to you.”
(See The Al Fazl, January 4, 1944, reporting on a speech by Mufti Sadiqra on the Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community held in Rabwah on December 26, 1943. The text in speech marks is translated by the author from Urdu, which is the language of the original text).
Via the ROR of Feb-1943, Sayyid Zayn al ‘Abidin Waliullah Shah tells a story about being alone with MGA, how he wanted to kiss MGA’s hair. Sayyid Zayn al ‘Abidin Waliullah Shah was waving a fan about MGA and really close. He then tells a story how a fellow classmate (Dr. Fazal Din) of his broke his walking crutches and he had to walk without them for several days. He claims that MGA rubbed some medicine on it and it was much better, he even alleges to have served in a military campaign and had no issues. He also tells about MGA and how MGA would go out into the fields and pray alone. When the famous Kangra earthquake occurred in 1905, MGA began to sleep in his garden and many students also camped with him.

Per the ROR of Feb-1947, a photo of Maulvi Jalal ud Din Shams is posted. The ROR also has an essay by him entitled, “Preaching of Islam in Europe” by J.D. Shams (for imam of the London mosque). In this essay, he talks down on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Maulvi Chiragh Din and Syed Amir Ali and claims that they fabricated all of their beliefs to please the colonists. For example, Shams states that Sir Syed Ahmad Khan denied the existence of angels. He also mentions how a white man named Dixon (also mentioned in Nuzul ul Masih, 1909)(income tax case) came to Qadian once and MGA walked him out to the canal bridge, which is 2.5 miles outside of Qadian. He also mentioned MGA’s famous fake dream of 1890-1891 which was written in Izala Auham (See Izala-e-Auham, pp. 515–516, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 3, p. 377) wherein MGA said that white birds would join Ahmadiyya (See the ROR of June-1917). Shams also mentioned Mufti Muhammad Sadiq and the Piggot. Shams also wrote how Sir Fazl-i-Hussain praised the efforts of Ahmadiyya in London (in 1927). Sir Fazl-i-Hussain mentioned how Khwaja Kamaluddin had travelled to London in 1913 and started this mission of MGA. Shams made disparaging remarks about Khwaja Kamaluddin.
He migrated to Lahore from Qadian with the Khalifa and then later to Rawbah.

Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiqra

One of the benefits that became manifest after being stranded on the shore for a few days, before I officially entered the country is that without any effort on my part and without spending a dime, my portraits and accounts of the Jamaat have been published in the most prominent and famous newspapers over here.
These papers are printed in their millions. By 14 March 1920, 14 articles have been published in various newspapers and four times, my photographs have been printed. There are some details in these articles that are present in almost all of them. Thus, I shall briefly translate them as a whole:
“The American ship [SS] Haverford arrived in Philadelphia on the evening of 15 February [1920]. There were many Chinese people on board, who were dropped off at Halifax and from there, the ship came here. The ocean was mostly windy and stormy. There were some army captains and other officers as well, but the most notable passenger of this ship is Mr Mufti Muhammad Sadiq. He is a preacher of a reformed sect of Islam called Ahmadiyya and he has come to this country alone to convert America to Islam. He has great faith in the truth of his beliefs. The centre of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat is Qadian, which is located in district Gurdaspur of the province of Punjab, India … The name of the present Imam of Ahmadiyya is Mahmud.
“Prophet Ahmad claimed that he was the Promised Messiah and the Mahdi. He made many prophecies that were fulfilled. One of them was about the last war and the destruction [of the] Russian Tsar, which was published many years before the start of the war. The people of this sect do not believe in jihad. They believe that the truth of a religion should be proven with the help of reasonable arguments and signs. There are about 600,000 Ahmadis in India and other countries.
“Mr Sadiq has been working for the Ahmadiyya Mission in London for the past three years and converted a large number of English men and women to Islam. He wears a green turban on his head and a brown suit. The style of his coat is not English, but rather a unique kind of his own. He speaks very fluent English in a scholarly tone. His general knowledge is extensive and he knows seven languages. He has received numerous diplomas and degrees from London’s colleges and academic societies. Initially, he plans to establish his headquarters in New York and then he will give lectures across the country. Philadelphia will be included in the circle of these lectures.
“A strange thing about their beliefs is that they do not believe Jesus Christ to be alive and his [physical] ascension towards the heavens. They believe that he died, not on the cross, but was taken down from the cross in a state of unconsciousness and then went to Kashmir after recovering from his wounds. At that time, Jews used to live there. There, he died a natural death. His grave is still in the city of Srinagar, which is confirmed by the traditions and history of the country of Kashmir.
“Mr Sadiq was barred from entering the country by immigration inspectors because he did not have certain documents and for being a preacher of a religion that allows polygamy. However, he did not accept the inspectors’ decision and appealed to the secretary of state. He has been placed at the immigration station pending an appeal.”
These were common details. Now, I will present those phrases as a sample that some newspapers have written separately:
1. Philadelphia Record, dated 22 February 1920:
“Mufti Muhammad Sadiq Sahib has been stopped because he came from a country where a person cannot come to work in this country according to the law of interior. However, preachers, professors and doctors are allowed. The departmental officers in the Washington will now decide whether Mufti Muhammad Sadiq can be included in the exemption.” (Washington is the capital of this country, where the president and his secretary reside.)
2. Public Record, dated 10 February 1920:
“Authorities have sent a telegram to Hindustan, enquiring if Mufti Muhammad Sadiq Sahib has one or more wives. After the reply comes from there, it will be decided if he can work here [or not]. Being stopped like this is annoying for him. However, in and around his house, he has made a lot of friends and everyone praises him for being an intellectual and good-natured man.”
3. North American newspaper, dated 7 March 1920:
“Mufti Muhammad Sadiq Sahib, an Ahmadi preacher, whose picture is being published here is stuck thus far. The last letter of his name is ‘Q’ and not ‘G’ as some newspapers have written. Also, he is not a Hindu. Indeed, he is a Muslim who belongs to India. In India, Muslims are not called Hindus. ‘Sadiq’ means righteous. There is nothing wrong with his passport, but he does not have a written certificate from his missionary body, which is required in this country. He claims that he does not work on his own, but rather the organisation of his Jamaat pays all his expenses. After working in London for almost three years, he has handed over that work to two other missionaries. Their names are Mr Sayal and Mr Nayyar. He has a wife and four children. They live in India.”
4. Bulletin, dated 19 February 1920:
“Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, a missionary of a reformed Islam called Ahmadiyya, has travelled thousands of miles all alone to reach the shores of America with the aim of converting this country to Islam. Having a beautiful face and wearing a green turban and a long coat, he intends to promulgate Ahmadiyyat in this country and then return to India via Arabia. He is a member of a committee of translators of the significant translation of the Holy Quran, which is being published in India.”
5. Evening Bulletin, 17 February 1920:
“This Muhammad wants our country to become a follower of the new Muhammadan sect.”
6. Public Ledger, 17 February 1920:
“Mufti Muhammad Sadiq is the most prominent of [SS] Haverford passengers, who converts the disbelievers to Islam. His church [sect] is a reformed church. His appearance and dress show that he is a learned man. He did not bring a sword, rather he brought arguments. According to their religion, the door to revelation is always open and obedience to the government is the duty of every person.”
7. Newspaper, The Press, dated 19 February 1920:
“The handsome chief missionary of Ahmadis, Sadiq has been stopped by the authorities but he is hopeful that he will convert America to Islam. His photo is published in this newspaper. The obstacles here did not put Sadiq in despair. In fact, he is full of faith and belief. Prophet Ahmad, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat, competed with Dowie, the American claimant of prophethood, in prayer [duel]. After that, Dowie died with humiliation and his legacy perished. Mr Sadiq speaks scholarly English and is an experienced and courageous person. His words are very precise and serious. The movement of his hands emphasises the meaning of his words. Ahmad, the founder of the Ahmadiyya sect, was a Muslim, a follower of the Holy Quran, a true admirer of Muhammad and a reviver and reformer of Islam.”
At present, my address for correspondence will be:
C/O Mr Rosanthall, 65 W 116 Street, New York (US America)
There is a separate address for telegrams. It has been sent to the office of Ishaat. The stamp on the letter from India to America costs two and a half annas [a unit of currency formerly used in the subcontinent, equal to 1/16 of a rupee] and the postcard stamp costs one anna. Thus far, I have not been allowed to enter the country and I request prayers from members of the Jamaat.
Muhammad Sadiq
America, 17 March 1920
